Can you become self sufficient?
Hey guys i was wondering can you become completely self sufficient in the late game so you don't run out of resources?

I am testing out how many fabrication modules I need to continuously make parts enough to build power supplies (wind/solar) so there are always parts on hand when they malfunction. AND build the end game piece. Right now I'm in the desert playing the combat mission.

Unless you are able to find a way to reproduce OREs or scrap but otherwise no other way to make the alloys which is required for just about everything higher tier wise. (i think)

Yes!

As stated above; alloys are needed, made from scrap/ores. Scrap can be scavenged/expeditions. Ores can be mined/meteors, most ores are silicon anyway.

Everything else can be grown. Space debree keeps falling meteors as well, if you have Ken then you have lots od surplus scrap. If you have someone with high construction things won't break a lot. So you only needs tons to set it all up, to keep it roling is way cheaper.

Also, it's even easier on the Trade Scenario, in which you can trade for any needed goods which you either do not want to, or cannot, produce yourself.

Another thing, not mentioned, which is a self-sustaining source of metals is Nests. The game continues to spawn new ones over time. Of course, it's not at all reliable in terms of whether or not a new one is close enough to be worth going to.

Nests don't give metals, it gives carbon nano tubes.

Depending how large you build you could run out of stones/concrete on a desertum map in the very long run for repairs i think.

I think of that as the highest tier "metal" in the game, because they are made with metal alloys (both in the game, and in real life).

But fair point, if you want to split hairs.

Is there anything that is made of stone that you cannot replace with carbon and/or metal, though? i.e. you can completely phase out your need to have stone. Just like you do for wood on that map.

True, i based my comment purely on this " which is a self-sustaining source of metals is Nests" And nests itself dont reward you with metals, it gives carbon tubes directly.

Just meant to avoid confusion, nest are a great resource for it thats for sure.

In the military outpost scenario, you can have fabricators continuously make metal and silicon. You also have food fabricators. To the OP's question, yes, you can have a self sustaining outpost. You just have to have enough of them to keep up with the demand of the malfunctions of the power supply that you will need to power all those fabricators.

same with tade scenario, there you can buy metal...

What are this fabrication modules and where did you find the technology?
You don't mean the 3D printers I hope!?

I found/bought a fabrication-matrix technology that let me create round battery like things. Description is I can transfer energy into matter but that's about it. I have 2 in my storage and no way I can use them. Something I am missing.
I played survivor and the trading scenario both finished. The fabrication-matrix I bought from a trading ship really cheap just 5000.

I find no information about this anywhere... so can you help me here?

oh and to the topic..I see the only limited resorces are stones (and with that concrete)
the rest you get with expeditions and crashes.

The game offers me much too many expeditions and crash site.. it's completly overdone int hat point.

Some of the pets dig stone.
Also, some pets litterally shed carbon nanotubes.

Only source of scrap and alloys I've found after a while however are expedition, but you shouldn't need a lot of those, basically, later in the game, if you've got everything in carbon, the only need you have for those should be remaking electronics and repairing turrets / mechs / electricity sources.

I have fabrication-matrix as a bench item but I've no idea what to do with it or how.
Flin Fredstone May 3, 2024 @ 3:13pm
When you have a fabrication matrix you can research it to build more. Also you can research food and/or metal fabrication.
You can place those fabricators and create food and metal etc by using electricity.
