Is there a population cap? I've just purchased this game now so doing a bit of reading while it downloads. I've just watched a review and this seems like the game i've been after for a LONG time.
Thank you for this. Loving it so far
I started with 10 and now have 13, check out the steam workshop mods.
It may be you didn't select a full group when you first started the scenario? When you select your characters, you may need to scroll down on the top bar, where your selected group is displayed. If you have empty portraits you don't have a full group.
I have a maximum of 4/4 for survivors and I can't add more
So what does the rule "Big Family" actually do then? If theres no hard cap on the number of survivors you can have in Crash Landing and its just based on RNG, then how does it 'add an average of 2' to that? With the game being open ended, if there was no set cap on the number of survivors for each seed wouldn't it add a percentage rather than an integer?
I am curious about this myself. I did choose "Big Family" but have not had and additional survivor for years, even though I frantically respond to every distress signal etc etc that comes my way....
Yeah. I've noticed that, with Crash Landing, certain seeds will pretty much guarantee you a big group every time, such as CALM-TUNE, while most will not and will refuse to let you get beyond a specific number. It seems to me like theres a soft cap associated with each seed beyond which it becomes almost impossible to obtain any more survivors; presumably based upon a diminishing probability chance of success for every survivor you recruit (based upon what JensErik said). I suppose technically it wouldn't be a hard cap, but the chance would become so small that you've got to dedicate hours of your time and hundreds of reloads to RNG in order to beat it.
In that case, saying that Big Family adds an average of 2 to your playthrough would make sense. But then such a soft cap would be virtually the same as a hard cap to all but the most OCD of players.
So if that is the case, then I wonder what that soft cap is? I've seen figures of 10-12 thrown around, but I don't know how true they are.
If its not the case and the number of survivors you can have is actually open-ended like they say, then it doesn't make much sense to say Big Family gives an additional 2 when people could stay in the game into year 10, 15, 20 etc - their chance of getting additional survivors would be way higher than 2.
I think the tooltip simply says it increases max number of survivors by 2.
I did a few games (didn't complete any) with the CALM-TUNE seed on Sobrius when I first started playing the game, with Big Family. I did the 'scum-saving' to see how many survivors I could get.
It got a bit of an obsession, and wasn't really fun, but I had 11 at the most. Or 10, maybe. Got too many to keep track of and find jobs to, for my micromanagement style. Got dizzy lol.
Anyway, had a walk-in (Yokko) on day 5 and another later in the year, I think, or the next, and found the rest on expeditions.
When reloading a failed expedition, I either sent another survivor or let the game run for a game hour, then saved and sent the same survivor again. I rarely had to reload more than 3 times until they 'bit'
CALM-TUNE is supposed to be good for Desertum as well, but I had a look around on the map, and it looked a bit depressing lol. But I'm not sure what's needed on the biome yet, since I haven't tried it yet. I'm addicted to too many games...
