Little tip on Toxic Ash and farming
Trying insane accomplishments for the third time...
Starting my 2nd year, and on this one, I'm plagued with Toxic ash (3 in the first year, and for many days each). Did the mistake to grab two vegetarians in the crew...

Losing so much crops and plants, then I looked at the wild flora, to see they are not impacted, so...I just removed the fields to let the plants regain by their own, problem solved.

After the ashes are gone, simply rebuild your fields over your crops, they won't be destroyed or replanted (unless you pick a different plant that is), so you can gain back control on them. Or simply let them grow, check them from time time to harvest them (some will need replanting though).

Yep. The vets playing the game have known that for a while now.

Someone posted a while back that it also helps keep your plants from being infected by Toxic spores on Saltu, but I've never tried that because I have seen wild plants affected by that, so I am skeptical.

Personallly, I am far too lazy to remove fields and then rebuild them after an event. I just build a fence around my fields to keep out "hungry pests" and let the Toxic ash kill them. Unless you are super early in the game, it's not a big deal to lose a crop cycle.

The blight is not a big deal, if you have several survivors set with "cut" as highest priority they will get everything cut before it spreads to more than a handful of plants.

I will say though, on runs where I do a single, solo survivor, I don't plant fields. And I know you're doing a lot of those playthroughs. I do mainly trading scenarios though, and have a LOT of fields, where removing and replacing them is a lot of hassle.

Thanks for confirming...I tried to find some tips myself, and could not find any, at least quickly, maybe it's mentioned in some lengthy vids.

At least this post might help others.

Cheers!

On the (albeit few) solo runs I did, I always salvaged enough first aid kits to not need to plant glittercap or grain. It's not like you use that many with only a single person.

I also never needed to worry about silicon. Same thing, one survivor doesn't need all that much, and salvage plus nearby wild silcon plants was always enough to get the few electronics and cpu cores required.

I didn't do it on "insane" difficulty ever though, and I'm sure that's a factor.

I think I've alslo just been lucky on my solo runs. I DID do cooking, just not farming. There's always been enough wild food sources nearby to provide the needed ingredients to make it to the end and the 'win' conditions.

Never did a solo trade scenario though....that would take a long time, I think you'd have to farm.
