Carbon rooms are scam. In this game you need to have a cheapest base as possible, to reduce amount of raiding bugs. So no carbon or concrete rooms - hay and sticks only! Mood bonus is the same and temperature isolation does not matter in this game, if you have clothes.
Stupid mechanics, but it is what it is.

You've made my point -- that you really don't need a house at all; proper clothing will protect the survivors from the extreme heat & cold events. That said, if you are going to build a house, then build a good one -- carbon (best) or concrete for the thermal insulation properties. Yes, you are right that you get the private room happiness buff no matter what kind of house you build. But you are wrong in your assumption that the concrete & carbon houses will increase the amount of attacking bugs -- read Flin Fredstone's post above for a link to the developers' comments on this topic.
When you get your base to the point that you can build carbon & concrete houses, then are you really still worried about bug attacks??? At this point the attacks should be really just minor annoyances.
