Solar flares are killing it for me and I really like this game a lot.
Is there a way to turn solar flares off?

I am playing a medium game and the crafting speed and well levelled up and skilled character. But even so it is super slow to replace so many devices destroyed by solar flares.

There seems to be so many solar flares that can take out so many devices that I get almost totally locked into a loop of just replacing devices destroyed by them and its causing me to quit a pretty advanced game twice now.

I gave the game a very good review as I have been playing it a lot bit but this feels like a bit of a ceiling on the experience, so I want to get rid of them so I dont just get locked into a repeating cycle.

The flares do seem like a frequent mechanic just to add a level of difficulty, but you can mitigate a lot of those issues by developing a two tier defense. Use turrets for the long range and keep those flame throwers tactically placed to manage the hordes when the solar flares kick in. Working through some flares myself at the moment and those flamethrowers are my salvation.

I thought solar flares just disabled electronic devices not destroyed them. I`ve had two flares playing tonight and all was restored after the flares had stopped. Dunno if they can be "switched off " though.

I didn't pick up on that, no the flares don't destroy my equipment. They'll spark and flash but come back online once the flare is over.

They only last a couple of hours I don't worry about them anymore, if you have traps and flamers as backup.. of course you might get an issue with the flies, but not so much on medium. Might be mods to switch them off after release.. but nothing that I know of now.
Mmm, never had devices destroyed by solar flares. As soon as the event ends, every device works again.
Typically they are simply disabled. No amount of repair will do anything during a flare, afaik. If however you feel they are being damaged, try putting everything under roof?
Solar flare can over stay their welcome. It's one thing to leave you defenceless and another to spoil your food supplies.
The main issue is that all events turn wind generation off so other than daylight charging you need to be extremely careful how much output you can have and it get's annoying when everything is breaking down etc.

For example I no longer use more than 1 fridge, no freezers, no electric cooker or electric research table, 1-2 heat exchangers some lights and 1 gun and 1 motion detector.

This is why you need to use generators for back up power. No excuse for your freezers/refrigerators to ever shut down aside from the usual breakdown.
Fridges/freezers. Use until you can make air con.Build rooms big enough to take storage for all of your perishables and stick air con in the wall. Set temp accordingly. No more fridges/freezers! Voila.
Yeh I usually end up with a big walk in freezer using the air cons. As for fuel generators, if you can make fuel easily with the insect parts and are getting alot of attacks, it isnt so bad, in this regard, playing hard+ games are actually easier than medium or easier games.. but if you have no long grass or poor fertility.. and no insect fuel.. forget using fuel gens.
I don't even use refrigeration/freezers. Food is so abundant that's it's easily replenished. I've got tons of spoilage, but I'm also replacing it just as fast. Besides, they're a draw on the electrical grid and I find it beneficial to rely very little on electricity and save it for the must have electrical items (radio, auto guns, etc)
TRAPS, walls and guns lots of guns not bows. Have a good scavenger like ken. I sometimes save scum on what ken finds while scavenging and hope its a rifle. Do not wait for them to come to you be proactive to limit there number of incoming send out a two people with rifles and thin there number and let the traps do the rest. The flame thrower turret requires fuel not power create a kill box not only they have to deal with your traps but being cooked in a kill box
Thanks for the responses all.

It isn't that I am not defending or my fridges go out etc. Holding my own just fine. They have improved rifles and weapons etc.

Base has traps in the entrances and double flame flowers at the gates with turrets covering them (though the turrets are mainly just in a constantly repair cycle because of the flares)

The thing is. It is really annoying me constantly getting into a cycle where all I am doing is rebuilding the same things just for them to get nuked by a solar flare each time and this cycle has repeated itself in two playthrough's now. Endless repair basically becomes my game. Rebuilding the same thing between each flare and not really able to do much else. It got into this weird cycle twice now and I just got bored with playing.

The thing is, solar flares don't nuke anything. They just disable cpu-based devices during the event, but as soon as solar flares end, these devices work again.

If you have repairs to do, that's not because of solar flares.
