lack of metal?
I have played 2 games now and it seems like most every resource can be found or grown easily enough. Except for scrap/ore so I can make metal. I am perhaps missing something, though and would appreciate any tips.

In first game, I got to the orbital radios and just couldn't make enough metal to keep up with building any sort of defenses. No ore in the area and the only way to get scrap seems to be going on expeditions, which take awhile and only yield around 50-100 scrap at best.

In second game, I am on desert biome. No ore on map. I researched the tech that lets you find ore while digging in rocks. Out of 1000 stone, I found 5 ore. So it is even worse than on the first map.

I feel like I need metal constantly to build/repair defenses/structures. I got 4 out of 7 of my survivors off world, but once I got down to 3, could no longer defend the base (due to not having enough metal to build defenses or maintain once built)

Love the game, so not complaining. Just wondering if I am missing something or if I really do need to send out 4 people on expeditions at once to find enough scrap.

My fallback for this would be using the weather control Tachyon missions to trigger a meteor swarm (if available to you).

Worst-case scenario would be to dismantle metal/carbon platforms for scrap/materials, and rebuild using wood or soil.

Are you farming all the space ship hull wrecks you are finding? There are an abundance of scrap metal that has fallen from orbit that came from your capital ship. Periodically more pieces can also fall down.

You can also find ore deposits. You have to be careful not to mistake them from "stone", ore is anywhere from a mild grayish to a medium shade of gray. All you need to do is look carefully because you can also find ore near or mixed with stone. When in doubt, pause the game and click on the boulders you find strewn about. In time, you'll be able to somewhat distinguish ore from stone but admittedly it can be a pain to see sometimes.

Be advised that if you do find ore, you'll need to smelt it down in order to make it into useful alloys. Some advanced structures or equipment or things will depend on alloys, which is different from scrap. But you probably already knew it.

Good night, and good luck. Sleep tight and don't let the Skarabei bite. :P

You get metal from space debris. It periodically renews.

I highly recommend ken i get 200 scraps pr trip on 7 strengh... problably not a good idea to get materials early from exploring, better to build some muscle on your primary explorer first, then start bringing home the scrap. should obviously always send out on missions that might add more peeps to your group.

Best team in my eyes will always have laara and ken in the group, they are simply in their own league.
y1 usually do all the scavenge and salvage to build up his muscle for later pick up explorations. Ken is not as fast as quinn but he brings back so much more that i dont really consider quinn that good (think he is highly overrated by players in generel.)

Ken + physical 7 & balloon for scrap metal is the best way to go. I usually have so much scrap metal from Ken's balloon runs that I only need to scavenge 3 closest wreck to get to space Radio and out of the planet. This setup is especially good if want to move away from crash site and to a distance lake front or near better plant field without the additional starting nearby wrecks

Honestly, I have never had a scrap issue. I just ensure whenever new debris falls that one of the minions goes and bangs on it with their hammers. I end up having to store the scrap outside in x2 wide shelter due to the sheer amount so it does not take up my internal building supply dump. Also, combined with Ken (per Taloni above) it builds up very quick.

The salvage debris continually renews as well. My recommendation is to completely salvage away the debris so the new spawning/falling debris ends up close to your base again. This way you need not have the minions travel far.

Thanks for the replies. I was able to keep up on metal by sending someone with high physical on balloon expeditions pretty often. I got back around 100 scrap on most missions with physical 8. Still a lot slower to acquire than other resources, but it got me enough to build out the base.

You don't need a fireplace in every room. Stick walls indoors and only heating in the main room will do the job. Even better when they have warm clothing, then a low temp bedroom isn't a big deal.

Not just farm the clothblossoms you planted but also try to grab the ones in the wild if there is a decent amount near your camp. They usually bloom before your planted ones do.

I'm going to start a new game. I messed up this one lol. I also didn't get clothblossom fast enough. My clothblossoms were almost ready and didn't get to harvest before winter. :(

Best of luck! Messing up is the best way to learn in Stranded: Alien Dawn, and you're bound to have a few restarted games now and again. The folks here are pretty knowledgeable about the game if you have any other questions!
