Problems in Desertum
I'm sure it has been discussed somewhere already, feel free to give me link if you can find it any better than me. But I have some trouble in Desertum, I used LLL.

WOOD:
The Oasis Trees that spawned on the map all died. I got the seeds before it did, but I can't grow them about anywhere. The best I can find is a bit under 50 % growth rate. And only a single tree here and there then. Then I have these weird teaball trees. Growing them for wood is inefficient at best because it takes forever as well and doesn't get you much wood to show for it. So wood is a precious resource saved for occasions where it's absolutely necessary to use. Am I missing something or is it just how it's supposed to be?

CLOTH:
The clothes of my team of (by now) 5 are all slowly falling apart. I found that cotton plant or whatever its actual name was here, but it also suffers from the climate. I can grow it at 50 % speed, and I'll never make it to just the 1st harvest of them (much less to having actual clothes out of them) before the stuff my people are currently wearing falls apart. The natural plants I found are just a few here and a few there, that won't be enough to get me through. And without cloth, the balloon will also prove to be problematic. Is it a problem when they run around naked with straw hats at one point? I know I had a recipe to weave cloth from straw in another game (that would be a game-changer here because I can grow Blade Grass easily), but it didn't appear in this one yet. Any ideas how to get clothes quickly?

LEATHER:
I didn't start hunting animals yet because there are also just very few of them huntable for leather to begin with. The only plant leather on the map is safely secured behind an overlapping pair of insect nests that I didn't dare to attack yet.

So ... I would very much like ideas on how to improve my situation. :)

Here is what I did, I moved off the starting spot into the nearest box canyon I could find with a bunch of vegetation growing, animals tend to congregate near the vegetation, and with it comes lots of grassy plain, in a sector like that there will be all forms of the right types of land to grow all of these things, and in plethora during the wet season.

here is the idea: send your pops from the start to a place like this that you see on your map, mine is so far away from my start that i never even finished salvaging the escape pod.

here is my current run

So the terrain type changes with the seasons?! Still at the end of my 1st dry season ...

Hey,

For the wood problem, try to research palm trees.
Cloth is a bit tricky at the beginnng, but you need to focus on all the things you already said. Harvest the wild plants, hunt the dromaddas, get cloth by scavenging. Chemical cloth is an option but it surely takes a while to research. But keep in mind that cloth are not necessary to build the balloon. You can also use leather. As soon as you can do expeditions it gets a lot easier. Especially if you choose Maki or Rita because they have the Natural Curiosity trait. It can be a game changer.

Yes, used some of my valuable synthetic cloth to build the balloon and Rita brought back the Palm trees on the 1st flight (some Shooting Star expedition?). There hadn't been Palm Trees on the map before, and they grow pretty well here (90 %).

Still didn't find a solution for cloth though. Salvage brought me some much-needed metal for some tools, but no more cloth yet.

Also planted an Oasis Tree now. By some lake I found a spot where the soil gives him 50 %. So ... in a couple of years I may have a tree. Unless it dies like all of the others.

Must be a tough map. The brown spots usually give 90% growth.

@Hazduhr no the wet season boosts growth, it doesnt change the terrain

Cotton may not do you much good unless you have someone with a level 3 in tailoring, seems I couldn't even plant it before leveling someone up. The desert maps can be ugly at the start.

Noticed the boost now. These plants practically exploded. They very much needed the rain. Now I have more than enough cloth. So glad that they directly harvest it instead of having to craft it from some crop.

Now I just have to finish the new sets of clothes before the old ones fall apart completely.

Oh, and the planting part was no trouble at all. I have Rita. She *loves* Farming. She also got Intellect 10 in an expedition ... funny joke. I can't have her doing research, she has to take care of my fields. That's just about a full-time job. XD

Oh, and Saul, they do if you have the right kind of tree. I didn't. Rita brought me Palm Trees in the 1st and Palm bushes in the 2nd expedition. *These* things grow well here. Not the stuff I got instead.

CALM-TUNE the good old seed, you have the beach on your back and everythign you need with 90% grow,
SCENE-BAR
My absolute favorite, even more wood than greenland and good for farming.
btw i got 8 people on both . No joining but a lot of events

SCENE-BAR might just be my new favorite, I only wish it had better drops for electronics or component printing.

Thank you very much for this, I was already doubting my capacity to understand the basic structures of a (to me) new game. :)
