Controlling unwanted events like meteor rain etc.
I really hate how meteor rains and falling spaceship debris turn the land around my base into an infertile, black desert of craters over the years, so I tried to figure out, if and how I could possibly mitigate this at least partially and these are my findings:

1. Meteor rains
If a meteor rain happens, note the exact time it started, load a previous savegame, and a few hours before it starts, draft all your survivors and send them to some remote location. The meteorites will go down in the surrounding area where your survivors are. This way you can spread out the impact craters more evenly across the map, away from your base.

2. Spaceship debris
If you don't like the location of a debris impact, load a previous savegame, draft a survivor and let him stand in the impact area. Falling debris will never kill a survivor... it will go down somewhere else. If you don't like that place either, send another survivor there and so on, until you are ok with the location.

3. Insect Nests
Sometimes you might not like the location of a spawning insect nest. Just like with the falling debris, you can send a drafted survivor to the location. If he is standing in the area where the nest would normally spawn, it will spawn somewhere else.

Hopefully we will get more options to disable certain events, but until then you can at least somewhat control their outcome.

Great tip, thanks. Granted I like the meteors, 'cause it's easy access to metal, but you're not wrong about the location issue. :)

Has anyone had Meteor rains, Spaceship debris or Insect Nests spawn on building sites or farms?

I mark large farms (but never plant them) early on, to 'save' an area. and never had anything bad hit them.

Some good tips here!

I just got an expedition (tachyon source) where I could choose any of the disasters in the game, or to disable the device.

Was thinking of trying the meteor rain (gives ore?), but chickened out, in case my base was destroyed.

Maybe next time, thanks to this thread!

amazing tips.. Thank you. I'd love to see a mod that would allow us to "terraform" cleared ore sites, crash sites and cleared nests back into farmland

Honestly, we already have Giant's Grass, which, according to description, slowly improves the soil around it. So, I thougth it was put in the game to combat the infertile soil issue, but no, I surrounded the initial crash site with those, and after one and a half year nothing changed.
I really hope Haemimont Games is still working on S:AD, because in Surviving Mars (you should try it if you haven't already, it's awesome imo) you eventually had an answer to basically every issue. Not to mention the abundance of options regarding game setup.
