Can't find the required plants to Observe?

In my current playthrough, I've waited beyond the first winter to go the longer distances to Observe certain plants. But I can't seem to find any Grain plants or any Cotton plants anywhere. Like, ANYWHERE on my map (I just spent 20 mins grid-searching). Did they freeze? Or get eaten? What's the process of finding/getting access to that stuff now? There are whole research trees I can't seem to go down at the moment because I can't find these plants.

Look for them plants right after you land. They can freeze and get destroyed in winter.

Grain = long grass (orange color) or grancrob (green tall plant, found on every map)
cotton (white or yellowish) found around rocks/mountains, but can be anywhere.
buttermelon (squachy plant, orange or greenish/blended with ground) found everywhere
beefberries (green of color similar looks as graincrob)
fruit bushes (green in winter, blue in summer) bushes casn be found all around
chewroot (blue flowers) found near lakes (70% of worldseeds don't have these plants)
mushrooms (bright orange) found mostly near or on bottom of cliffs/mountains

Best way to find plants is not by using your eyes, use the box select tool, select parts and see what you have selected.

Thanks! I guess I already know how to get them/what they look like. But I kept getting my guys killed by doing observes on some of them in my current seed (everything spawned far away). So I waited until I was well-equipped, but it's been over 1 winter now. What I'm asking is how to I find and Observe those plants now in year 2 - now that I'm ready.

I have never seen plants regrow after either cutting it or freezed to death. So basically i would say your bit screwed now, there is a char rita i thought who can observe plants when you send her on expidition, but if you don't have her, and you have no fuel/cotton then basically your stuck. I would recommend to either restart or grab a new seed.

Not really, freezing to death or cutting means the plant gets wiped out. By default the plant can get to -30 some -50(i thought), but if those plants are to -30 and you are in winter +- -20 at night, then you get a coldsnap + -14-20 means you are at -34 - -40.

And to be honest, in real life, you would search for water and something to eat straight away then find/create shelter and fire. Basic survival.

I guess you where just unlucky and had a coldsnap in winter?

Well, I think it's probably a bug? Doesn't make sense that I would land on the last year ever that Cottonbush grows in the wild? It should come back a little bit at random every season.

So er.. how do you see what's in the selection box.. without using your eyes?

S/he means to draw the selection box with your mouse over stuff hard to separate from each other and check the list on the left, what goodies u got this time.

Those open world plants grew back in the fall of Year 2. I was able to Observe them both!
