Electrical Stuff Constantly Breaking.
Hello all,

I wanted to ask, Am I missing something here? I have alot of batteries and electrical stuff, But it seems like 2 -3 things break every day, and takes up my peoples time and my electronics components to Constantly repair them. I can barely keep up with the electrical components needed to repair stuff, let alone actually manufacture anything new... Its becoming unbearable.

I believe I read a tool tip or something somewhere stating that if you have someone that has a low construction skill ' FIX ' an item than the item will tend to break down again faster because that survivors skill is not up to par. Think of it like having a person that has no idea what their doing fixing the plumbing on your leaky sink and then you being surprised a day later that the sink still leaks ... because you didn't have someone with any skill at plumbing fix your sink. I don't let just anyone fix my broken things only the two survivors that have skill above 6 fix them. I also don't play on Fast forward or increase time which would make the time between broken things SEEM like its happening faster than it should .. If you play on fast forward.... than time is going faster than you think it is.

That might explain it... I had 3 people with almost no construction skill working in construction.

everything breaks to quickly, to often. clothing lasts less time than it takes to craft. electronics are constantly breaking down, three or four times a year. my crew is almost completely maxed out in skill and it hasn't changed the rate of failure at all.

Oh, that's not good....

I'm betting if we asked .. which we didn't .. if you normally play your game in fast time you'd say yes.

As long as I keep my electrical use to a minimum (eventually ONE soldering table and ONE 3D printer) I am not having much problems. I did not do well with the tutorial, I have done the LONG tutorial a few times, but whenever I try to figure out how the switches and circuts are supposed to work, the tutorial shows ONE but the device has TWO and also has 10 variables. So, I just ferment all of my vegetables and eat purple glop nonstop. And blueberry wine, lots and lots of blueberry wine (usually have 5 or 6 fermenting casks going at once).

LOL ... was this supposed to help the OP in some way? It seems you may need a lesson or 10 in electrical grids. Here is an example of how some of the switches and ' Variables ' are supposed to work as an example:

The switch = Lets say you have 1 switch... This one switch has 2 sides like a light switch but this light switch when Flipped up (we'll call that side A) and the other side when flipped down (Side B) Now lets say you have all of your electrical Heaters in your ' HOUSE ' set to this switch ... to do that you will set your switch to use a circuit you have 10 circuits to choose from but say you want to use this switch to turn on all your heaters in the winter and in the summer to turn off all your heaters by using this one switch instead of having your survivors go to each heater.

When this switch is ' flipped down ' or turned off to turn off the heaters.. it will turn on whatever is on devices on the inactive side of the switch .... this in real life is called a toggle switch not really a light switch So when A side is ON the other B side is off I have not really found a use for the B side so I only use connections on the A side to turn all my electrical heaters off with one switch in the spring.

So you will create your switch .. put it on a wall .. and lets set its circuit to circuit 3 (you could use any number you wanted here im just saying 3 as an example. Now you need to set all your heaters to also use circuit 3. And now when you flip the switch your heaters will turn/off when you flip your switch.

Here is an example on how I use circuits on my grid.

I have a Day/Night Sensor set up on circuit 2. And I have 8 FLood Lights all over my base also set to circuit 2. When night time comes, all my flood lights go on by themselves and and then go off by themselves during the day without my survivors having to flip a switch or ' handle ' anything. It saves a little power on the grid during the day to help my batteries charge back up.

Understand? If not.. IDK how to help you.

I generally run in fast mode, Yes....

Are you suggesting that playing in fast mode somehow glitches the degradation cycle of electronic items? Maybe its a bug???

I use a thermal sensor and set it to "Channel 1", then set all the heaters in that room to channel 1. Then i set the thermal sensor to 20 degrees Celsius, and it turns on the heaters whenever it senses lower then 20 degrees Celsius, But you must make sure you centralise the thermometer away from all the heaters because the heaters heat up the area close to them more then the rest of the room, so it can throw off your measurement...

I also add in 1-2 air conditioners depending on the room size, and set them to 20 degrees. They don't need the circuit, because they have built in thermostats...

If thats true. then this is a game breaking issue... I dont know if the dev plans on adding something eventually that balances it, and this is just what is here as foundation? or if he just overlooked how much we would hate to have to repair ♥♥♥♥ everyday with no way to Curb it...???? The more electrical things we build, the more often we have to focus on repairing it daily... ARG....

I can see how getting more people will help keep this from being such an issue, but getting new people seems liek a far cry away....

I have tried to grab girls and guys every time ive restart now, and married them off, but they never make babies, so that kinda sucks.... They dont even get a double bed, you have to put 2 singles beds in a room and assign them for them to be happy about it.. i dont think they understand what Fornication is.... lol

yea its a hard time trying to make a carbon house because you need all the stuff, grain to oil to fuel and smelt alloys to last make carbon.. and still have to fight bugs and have electricity to even make electronics.. haha i hope they will look it up!

It is a massive problem and slightly broken.. An easy game with the max skill modifier - everything broke at the same rate as a normal game, so I think the skill of the repair person isn't working.

Yes I am suggesting that if you SPEED UP TIME .. than the TIME between BROKEN items gets SHORTER Because you SPED UP TIME... hello... McFLy??

I thought you were saying there was a glitch making them break sooner then they would normally, if you ran at full speed. Its obvious that speeding up time would make things break more often in general. Id think that would just be evident. It doesn't address the issue though.
