Can't deconstruct shelves
Having an issue where I cannot deconstruct 5 shelves and a stockpile.
I deconstructed the shelter around them in hopes that would help but to no avail, any ideas welcome :)

Oh man, I feel your pain!
I had to muck around with it a LOT - hope I remember how I did this... um... I think I had to deselect ALL - under the list tab - the second tab. Then I had to click keep empty?
Then I think the survivors empty it... once empty, the option to deconstruct comes up, and voila!
Something like that, anyways.
I tried so many things I forgot what worked *exactly* sorry, Hope that at least gave you some ideas on what to try?

Since asking I've tried my best to brute force them to use the items, I think the biggest issue is that there are/were partially crafted items on them, hats and sneakers which the survivors had no idea how to move, or aren't programmed to be able to assign them to other storage areas. Thanks :)

You build a new stockpile/shelf for these items to transfer to... deselect all the items (restrictions) in the current containers, and set it to Deconstruct. Depending on your survivors' priorities (Deliver), they'll eventually get around to emptying and deconstructing it.

I've moved items between containers this way (without setting it to Deconstruct), just by changing the restrictions. So I have shelves that are just for wine, fuel, etc.... and an off-base unroofed pile for leather and hides because I really don't need 7k of these at this point. If only there was a better way to dispose of these overruns.

what i do is , first click on top , empty stockpile , then put all survivors to 1 on handle and transport , and only those 2 have 1 , rest is higher.

There is a trick to this but it's a bit of a chore. Mark the shelves "empty and deconstruct". Then, find a few other things in the room about 2-3 tiles away to mark to deconstruct - floor is good. Select a survivor and then on the floor press the Y button - this is gamepad, I think it's right click for mouse? You'll get the option to deconstruct floor, but often you'll also see an option for deconstruct shelves - select that one (and unmark the floor you probably want to keep). They should then smash up the shelves sending the contents flying, which they'll eventually pick back up

... and better is, when you select only 1 stock to empty/deconstruct ...
