it really is getting bad, year 7 for me and even though I got 3 printers up specifically for electronics/cpu cores, basically 90% of my work load is getting the resources to feed into the printers and fuel repairs. Feels like all the high tech options that should make your life easier actually just complicate everything

How do you even print electronics? I have 3 printers and still have to use soldering benches for electronics.

The game is actually a tower defense type of game, not a colony game... Because you are suppose to rush and send all your settlers to flee in ships.

How do you unlock it in the research tree? I can only print meat
Indrid Oct 24, 2022 @ 12:12am
Each run has different research breakthroughs, but you could get lucky and unlock it through an expedition.
Yeah the repairs mechanic needs work. I am in year 6 and all my guys are doing is repairing stuff and feeding the printers. Stuff breaks too frequently and everything needs electronics to fix. Silicone is another issue, never enough, I have 1/2 the planet covered in silicon fields, but it only grows in spring/summer, and every year I have toxic ash that kills everything. I'm lucky to get one harvest a year but it's not enough. My camp goes all winter with stuff breaking but I can't make enough electronics to fix it due to lack of silicon

I feel it too already and I'm just year 4... everything breaks too often, You can't keep up unless being lucky with salvaging.

The same thing occurs for clothes, you can't craft full sets for winters/summers as quickly as they ruined them.. my colonists are always missing boots, pants or a top lol..

Game is really poorly balanced (which I don't get because it's just Rim world with a 3D skin, why don't they copied everything lol)
Noxsa Oct 24, 2022 @ 3:14am
the "year" needs to be longer if you ask me, it so fast, if you look it takes half a year to craft a full set of armor if you don't have cracked out crafters, also all the crafting needs automation, where no survivor have to be standing there, maybe just to set it up and start the proccess but is then free to do what ever else you want em to do.

game has potential for sure and what they have now is a great start, really hope they keep working on this and not go lacks or limp like other ea devs do, or worse run away from the project...

not to jinx anything, but every game i bought in EA that i started to really really like, is either still in EA and crap or die'd and never got finished. (and i really really like this game)

There are a few things that require electronics to repair such as power and food storage that need to be always on but many other things can be put in standby mode. Things only break while in use so if your turrets are linked to a motion sensor it's much better.
DO NOT build the orbital comms system. The rewards do not come anywhere close to the costs in power and the repairs to that power supply or the repair costs in electronics when they break. Nowhere near worthwhile building. These will suck all your components out of you very, very quickly.

People need to stop relying on crafting clothes. There are far easier and faster ways to get clothes than making them. If people insist on using crafting as if it is the only source of clothing then they deserve to fail. Crafting allows you to selectively craft for a specific slot which is great but if you are trying to supply all your clothes this way then just prepare to fail. Salvage is pretty RNG but if you use lots of expeditions you will be rolling in clothing. It's a very common reward and in reasonable quantities too.
The only balance issue with clothing is the balance between people using ALL the available game systems and the ones solely relying on the slowest possible one.

either year needs to be longer or crafting needs to be quicker

Completely disagree, I have tons of leather, cloth, veggie leather, synthetic fabric. I am drowning in the resources to make clothing but I am unable to keep up with the demand.

Clothing (non armoured) wears out far too quickly compared to armour, with max crafting you can make armour instead which has comparable thermal stats and ignore clothing all together.

There are clear balancing issues with clothing wear rates compared to armour like leather, veggie armour etc.

No. You are completely missing the point.
Crafting is not the way to get clothing. Stop focusing on it as the be all and end all.
Do expeditions. Lots of them. Clothing literally falls from the sky.
Armoured, synthetic, summer, shipsuits, all of it.
If you continue to ignore the fastest and easiest way to get clothes then you get what you get. Tough. It could use speeding up. It would not hurt and it would not break the game balance but right now you and everyone else seems fixated on fixing crafting and totally ignoring what is already there.

Telling people that they deserve to fail for not playing the RNG lottery seems a bit off.

It's entirely possible to get things running efficiently where you are regularly getting entire clothing/armour sets finished up in a couple of days. Multiple tables actually really helps, with survivors set to do crafting when their main tasks don't need attending.

The issue that people seem to be having is that the initial clothing slump is so close to the start and you have this huge dump of clothing wearing out within a short period of the game starting and right as winter hits. That's a balance issue. Even Rimworld isn't that brutal and I play that bugger on fairly difficult settings.

You are assuming I don't do expeditions. I am constantly doing expeditions and don't find enough clothing, I get weapons, scrap, medical supplies.. Which is why I would like to make my own.
