They just walk in the room and stand there.
They don't follow their sleep schedules, I have the vegetarian character, a rescue, and set her to wake up one hour earlier cause she kept missing out on the vege meals, still missed the vege meals and she woke up later than the others.
People in sync sleep is practically impossible, they have different levels of fatigue and more than often wake up with nothing to do at 4 am, they will wonder around and might just disturb someone else´s sleep.
You set the schedule to "short sleep" from f.ex. 22-03 and anything from 03-07. Those wake up early will immediately go to a work station, cut trees or whatever, those who still need sleep will continue sleeping.
When people do anything they will (most often) relax by themselves, Greyson isn´t coded properly due to his slowness and will fail to even eat. That means your relax schedule might be wasted.
I have done it since the start and I have never anyone disturbing anyone´s sleep.
If you do have people working far away, could be observing something or cutting wood you will have to micro manage them to eat as soon as they wake up, even if they are at 60%. They will often just head off to do whatever and only do it for a short time and get back to eat.
Im having this problem as well it make no sense. Instead of just standing out of bed they move into other rooms for no reason . Large room 4 by 5 rooms
