I have a graincob field that's 162 tiles and keeping my oil capped at 200, and fuel at 100, I have enough to make it almost through winter keeping oil/fuel topped off for expeditions (that haven't found any more survivors after nearly 10 years...)
Oh, nevermind... found it in research. Thank you!
nononononononono..... Don't use insects for cooking AT ALL!!!! Use them for synthetic fiber so you can make the nice armor. Just now replaced Jack's 'jacket' after almost 5 years. Drfat a few people and kill the animals, then butcher em for meat. Such bad advice this guy here.
A full graincob field twice a year will keep you through at least 2 years, as if you plant it in winter you should get at least 2 harvests, which I think is 1000 grain each. 100 grain is 100 grain porridges, and 50 oil combined. However, you aren't gonna use 1000 grain for the porridge if you have also veggies and meet, then no more than 400. That means an extra 30 for oil at least, which means at least 80 for oil to fuel. That's one field. Halfway through fall year 4 I have 3605 grain and 580 oil. NO ANIMAL FAT. Working on my 4th complete set of synth armor, and synth fab can only be created by fuel or insect parts. Use insect parts ONLY for synth fiber unless you have a ton of it.
