I'm not sure how I got one character to like the other but not vice versa, but I imagine that most of it has to do with those random social pop-ups like "Agreed with xyz about xyz." So, having two people near each other a lot and getting lucky (or maybe certain characters are more compatible than others?). I would imagine that any character that's married, whether or not their spouse is also present, isn't capable to be romanced.
That being said, it'd be pretty scandalous if a spouse could fall in love with someone who isn't their spouse while their spouse is present. As a sidenote, Greyson is really in love with his wife Vanessa but Vanessa REALLY hates Geryson. Yet, she still gets the "slept next to my love" buff.
And in both games she's ended up in relationships, resulting in marriage each time.
In my current game, she got engaged, married, was happy for a couple of years, then dumped the guy, and hooked up with Ken!
I didn't even notice till I saw a few people were unhappy, and it turned out Ken was in his own room alone, while Vivien was still sleeping next to her ex! Quick bed ownership swap and Vivien and Ken were now happy, but the ex was very unhappy for months afterwards!
I wonder if it's because Jack is my main cook ? Everyone is thankful for the good meals he prepares ?
It's just random. I'm not sure, but I think the game seed might influence it in some way.
I've used the same seed for the last few games, because I like the terrain layout. In every one of those games, Vivien has universally hated everyone (and they return the sentiment). Probably because they keep her working in the clothing sweatshop 14 hours a day.
Krista on the other hand... men, women, young, old -- she always latches onto pretty much the first living human she spends more than 10 seconds around. But, again, I don't expect that to be the same on other seeds.
Hey upuat2! it mainly comes from survivors spending time with each other, but their relationship can be both positive and negative from this. Their relationships can also change from positive to negative, and vice versa!
