When you right-click on it, look at the 2nd tab and make sure that you have meat and hides selected
I do have all the items selected. I am having the same issue with both the small and large drying rack -- nothing gets taken there ever -- even when I have idle people.
How do I transfer items from my stock area, to the drying rack?
If you don't have people hauling anything, then you need to re-prioritize someone(s) to do so.
However the small ones have very little capacity, I prefer to use the big one, you also need to block access for tobacco leaf from time to time so you can make the tea.. or they put it all on the rack. Except in your case it seems you can't make pipes..
Wrong, mine is inside, and is always used as soon as hides or meat are available.
As with 90% of the complaints on this forum, the problem is that players don't use or don't know how to use the Activities table to manage the task priorities. You HAVE to change the default priority of Handle and Deliver columns to be sure that some of your survivors will do these tasks right away.
Not if you have someone with a high priority in Deliver, i.e. a priority higher than the other columns, since Deliver is the last one and tasks are done from left to right column. I never use manual orders, except in very rare occasions, like to prevent someone to take a walk outside during a toxic ash episode.
It's a delivery job I think, or at the minimum a handling job. It seems to be pretty low priority too. What you can do is when you send someone out to butcher an animal, follow them, select someone else then right click on the hides and tell them to haul those items.
One thing I've found particularly useful is not to have a storage for the raw hides. That way people won't take it to storage. You don't seem to be able to force people to carry from storage, but you can force them to haul stuff on the ground.
