Unreal Tournament: Game of the Year Edition

Unreal Tournament: Game of the Year Edition

Game running WAY too fast!
My game has been running at almost double the regular speed making the game almost unplayable. I have the application running in compatibility mode with Windows XP service pack 3, any help would be appreciated.

download the latest video driver, and then lower the frame rate under 200.
here's a guide on how to do it:

Thanks, I'll try it out.

Make sure you're using version 436, do not use compatibility mode on xp or 7, you can download a multi-core fix for ut99 from my clans website: http://nfrut99.clanteam.com/?page=downloads as well as other useful things. There are graphics drivers there, d3d will have to be configured via Console>preferences to use high detail actors. also, if you've been playing modern games for a while, ut may appear rather fast-pace. The game speed is adjustable in single player or if you host your own server. other servers may have the game speed increased. to use newer drivers you will need to check [ ] show all devices when changing the rendering device.

This was a problem for me when I had an AMD system. Make sure Cool and Quiet isn't enabled. I had that disabled and it made the game run in normal speed. Hope this helps!

This is a simple fix...you must enable vsync in the settings. hit ` to open the window in game. type PREFERENCES. go to the bottom to d3d (assumming thats what your running the game in) and make sure you change vsync. UT is funny in that most of the time if vsync is set to ON it is actually off...dunno why it was never fixed. OR if you are using an nvidia card you can open the nvidia control panel. go to 3d settings at the very bottom set your vsync to ON or ALWAYS ON. remember to also enable TRIPLE BUFFERING when vsync is enabled. The reason the game is running so fast, is that it is an old game and with your video card you are getting WAY too many frames per second. Enabling vsync will cap your frames at whatever your monitor is capped at and able to handle... Your Welcome :)

I had luck on a Haswell i7 and GTX770 by doing what VAD3R said and tweaking to taste (I played UT for a long time so was looking for that familiar 'feel' and speed to the gameplay.

Eventually found the sweet spot with:

(console -> preferences)
Display
MinDesiredFrameRate: 100
Rendering -> OpenGL Support
FrameRateLimit: 199
RefreshRate: 0
UseTrilinear: True

Didn't need to do any messy commandline switches or apply any multicore fixes :-)
I solved it by starting a dedicated server (you can also start UT again and join your own dedicated server...

I also ended up patching the game myself and dropping in the high res texture packs and an updated renderer (available on the various community UT forums) which resolves this issue, without further ini hacks. Game still runs and plays fantastically.

Get the 469d patch, DX11 Renderer / enhanced OpenGL Renderer, and HD Textures - game ought to then run fine, and you can customize the video settings, etc.

There's also the cpuspeed= launch cvar you can pass, to tell the game to sync to a specific cpu speed. as long as your processor holds that speed, the game will run at the correct gamespeed.
But, modern CPU boost all over the place, so you need older CPU with no boost, or use fixed clockspeed with this method, so it's best to download newer community fixes.

OP, have a look at this guide/thread - it seems to have detailed instructions for exactly the problem you are facing:

Try the enhanced OpenGL driver too - current stable version works nice for me:

Or try the DirectX11 Renderer - it worked well too, for me:
https://www.moddb.com/mods/unreal-directx11-renderer-for-ut-ug-rune-and-dx/downloads/d3d11drv

And get its HD Textures:
