Unreal Tournament: Game of the Year Edition

Unreal Tournament: Game of the Year Edition

Open source
The game is almost 20 years old and Epic does not want to release the source code. Why? Doom and Quake have lots of different source ports and bigger community. Why do I have to download an updated renderer?. I love UT99 but Epic should release the source code.

Unless I heard wrong, I think Cliffy B wanted to but wasn't allowed to or something. Not sure how true that is.

They should at least patch the game to Directx 9.

It already is. Before Windows 10 took away support for DX9 I believe it was already there as an optional renderer. Even still you can download the DX9.dll files and put em in there and it will work I'm pretty sure, or you could get the superior DX10 renderer and use that instead.

The C++ source code was partially released. The UnrealScript source code is also available.

https://github.com/stephank/surreal (separate project but has code and information I think you'd be looking for)

The community has been making native modifications for a while. UT99 has patches that go right up to Direct3D 11 despite being released with a much older version of Direct3D.

Direct3D 9 patch (as well as newer OpenGL): http://www.cwdohnal.com/utglr/

UT99 has community patches past Epic's 436 but they were mainly for the server side: https://web.archive.org/web/20160329004342/http://www.utpg.org/
This is great but I wish Epic would treat Unreal Tournament differently. Oh, wait! They are busy with Fortnite.

I wish they do something for UT99 20th anniversary.

They already did for Unreal. It was free on GOG for 2 days.

So you want UT99 free on GOG for 2 days? Coz I thought you meant something more.

No, I want to know that they care about UT99 community. They should either make it open source, like Id Software did OR update the game, so that it runs flawlessly on Windows 10, without fan patches.

I think it's safe to say UT99 and UT2004 will never get another update from Epic. It's all community now.
If so, then then I would like to thank the community for keeping the game updated. UT99 is my favorite FPS ever!

With all my heart,
Thank you!

That's exactly what I thought you were saying.

I own it on both Steam and GOG. I just wish Epic would "remaster" it or something. It's almost 20 years old and without patches, it's very dark or runs too fast.

Epic, 3D Realms, Valve - these are comanies we likes in old days. They are all dead now.

3D Realms just released "Ion Maiden" in Early Access.
And Epic is working on Fortnite and UT4 (sort of). And Valve, you know, runs Steam and all.
Did you mean not the same companies as before or something?
