Unreal Tournament: Game of the Year Edition

My game speed is too high
I had played UT 99 in the past, so I can cleary tell that as it stands now, my game pacing is too fast. It does not seem to be because the game speed is above 100%, and I downloaded and installed the oldunreal patch, so i'm at loss as to why this is happening:caster_sad:

The OldUnreal patch is for Unreal Gold IIRC. I am not aware it will work with UT99/UTGOTY.

Set the minimum desired frame rate to 60 in the video settings and use the D3D9 or D3D10 renderers available on the internet.

You’ll also need to limit the game’s frame rate to 60FPS.

Try changing the video driver, in the game, settings

TehSpoopyQuarantinedKitteh is correct. The patch that you downloaded from OldUnreal is most likely the 227 patch for “Unreal Gold.” Your “Unreal Tournament” game should be at version 436. If you operate a server, people say that UTPG’s version 451 patch is best suited for that.

Use either the new OpenGL, Direct3D9, 10, or 11 renderers and set a frame rate limit. Google up “Chris Dohnal UT99,” or something like that. Chris Dohnal is some dude who has a website for OpenGL and Direct3D9 renderers, which have more features and are more stable than the renderers that the game comes with.

However, Chris Dohnal’s renderers are outdated. OldUnreal has newer versions, but I’m not sure if they are safe for servers with ACE. So, if you’re skeptical about that, just stick with Chris Dohnal’s renderers. I personally use OldUnreal’s versions because I don’t really go on many ACE servers to begin with. You can find them here: https://www.oldunreal.com/utpatches.html

Be sure to download the version that is labeled “experimental beta.”

As for the Direct3D renderers, D3D9 has always given me weird mouse lag, and the D3D10 and D3D11 renderers, which can be found on kentie.net, crash my game and run it in Software Rendering — even after I followed all of the instructions. So, I just stick with OpenGL.

Anyway, download whichever renderer you wish and set a frame rate limit. You can do this by going to the game’s advanced options menu.

Start up your game, and press the ~ or Tab keys (by default) to bring up the console. Type in the word “preferences” (without quotation marks).

From there, go to the renderers tab, and find the tab for your renderer. Click on it, and then find “FrameRateLimit.” Change the number to whatever you prefer. Personally, I use a frame rate limit of 100. I’ve found that that is the smoothest and fastest the game can be without being “too fast.”

I hope this helps!

Well,I DID downloaded the UT patch, I just happened to do that on the oldunreal site, but i'll try the "experimental beta" install this time. thing is... I dont know how to install heheh. so im asking for help on that too, if you guys dont mind
also, I think you guys are onto something with the framerate. My game happens to be very unreliable with the speed, so it could be the framerate jumping back and forth. I saw some advanced settings graphic options that are acctually disabled,, so I enabled them, and hope that my crappy graphics card does the rest:steamhappy:

I remember having to run UT99 on a single core to get it running at the correct speed. I'm not sure on how to set it on Windows 10, in Win7 you would do it in the task manager, by selecting one core only in the "Set Affinity" setting.

Otherwise I think you need to install one of the updated renderers instead - I've always had success with the OpenGL one here:

Surprised to say, I was right. Somehow the graphic ajustments in the advanced settings were enough to slow down the game, probally 'cause my Graphics card is very bad( an "intel HD Graphics 4000")so yeah, pretty neat

I actually have OpenGL and was using by default in UT99, so I don't think thats it. Good tip, but as I said before, I really dont need that. Maybe when I upgrade MY pc and add an GPU, but as for now, I sorta already solved

All renderers are installed the same way. Just extract the files to your game’s System folder, but be sure to back up the original files before you replace them.
