Questions about ps2 UT
I've been playing UT on my ps2 and noticed some missing things and changes, mainly some models have their own unique look and new animations, the weapons also have minor changes or were slightly changed, like the sniper rifle as the model is a bit different and the animations are changed up a bit.

There are a few things that upset me a tad as I played and these things were, skaarj have human animation, war machines chosen by players are not the spiked variant that bots can be, feign death with the keyboard at times causes no animation to play unless you use a male character while females only have 1 correct animation for it, Dominatior, one of the boss characters is a skaarj but has complete skaarj animations along with a few new or minorly altered ones, male one and female one seem to be missing from the voices for some reason.

Mainly my questions are on why are there less voices, why are there no ways to pick the spiked variant of war machines and why are there no skaarj animations.

Does anyone know why or could a dev answer the questions?

Thanks

The PS2 version also has exclusive maps. Although, the PC version also has some exclusive maps.

It did come out 2 years later, so that's probably why, but then they could've just have put in the PS2 stuff in a bonus pack or an update.

By the way, be sure to download the fourth bonus pack, it doesn't come with GOTY edition since it was released after GOTY edition was released.

I already have the 4th pack but I'm just wondering why would the ps2 version in a way have better models and other things. It makes me think that they wanted to update the PC version to be exactly like the ps2 with the better stuff it has.

While I was looking for videos comparing the PC and PS2 version of UT, I came across a video you had made in 2014 showing the different models.

Where did you get the PS2 models? Can you still download them? Or did you port them over yourself?

I got them from mod DB, I believe it's the exact models but the skaarj models seem to be the dominator model I think.

If you're upset over the PS2 version's changes (which are all really fair for the PS2's memory-related compromises frankly), then you're gonna love the Dreamcast version. There are deluded sega fans out there that claim this is the superior version

I'm not upset but more curious as to why changes were made or things removed, I like the ps2 version but the lag is bad, I do agree that the dreamcast is better

Emotion engine's pretty powerful for vector processing and the PS2 port makes use of only skeletal models to make more effiicient use of the PS2. Vertex morph animations it had before would hog it all. Q3A was ported similarly

What i mean by the Dreamcast version is that it sucked. It has less stuff than the PS2 port but is loved because more of a DC-legacy bias.

Ah, alright, well thanks for your info.

Ah yes... The dreamcast version. I remember the rage of how the controls felt using that controller, it's something that I wanted to forget.

I remember playing the PC version not much after, being blown away because I just had such low expectations back then.

During game porting, developers faced difficulties. Turned out the game in that regular PC look didn't work well on ps2 hardware, mainly because of old fashioned vertex animating. So, the devs forced to re-create almost all models on skeletal animating systems, which ut ps2 models do use. So in result, ps2 models are more smooth and a bit differently looking (and better, imo)

You see those characters of Bonus Back 4? It's either ps2 "surplus productions" released for PC version (including skeletal animating) or they were used as basis for skeletal players of ps2 version. BP4 actually has mentions about ps2 actually if you dig in it.

Thanks for the info, I really wish Epic would go back and release the ps2 models as the base models for the PC version they have much more personality than the PC models.

That's just how things were done back then, and because the game was released 3 years after the PC version it needed some slight graphical enhancements. Deus Ex did the same thing. Originally released in 2000 on the PC one the same engine as UT99 and then in 2002 got released on the PS2 with tons of graphical changes and map design layout changes.

UT released on PS2 in 2000, nearly the year after PC.

Oops, pardon my ignorance.
