Characters without eyes.
What is the significance of the characters not having eyes? Some kind of folklore?

in anime, they are just "extras" and not that important.

They say eyes are the windows to the soul. With no eyes, maybe it means they have no soul or are possessed by something?

I feel like this is the most likely explanation. Showing that who they are isn't important and that "it could happen to anyone."

They're actually photos of real people just very heavily edited. The dev himself appears in some of his games too. He hasn't stated which ones except for Shikiyoku.
