Failing that, i dont know if its coincidence, but metal beasts seem to favor dropping metal. Higher level also drops more stuff. Turn up the level scaling and head to metal beast heavy areas. Autumn hill for allseer, marsh caves for ferriclaw, maybe even hunt down miss mimics
edit; oh and i'd add, fusions obviously give a bunch of loot, but i dont know if the "metal drops metal" applies to them, so it might be random, but faster. Same with archangel refights, they give a ton, but i dont know if any of them guarantee metal. Still, if either of those give like 4k wheat, that trades into 200ish metal
I was coming to say this myself but again I haven't really crunched the numbers so maybe it's just a mass confirmation bias going on.
Like holding down the B button makes it easier to capture.
5 wood to 1 metal
got around 25000 metal through this one spawn.
This spawn got triggered through a villager quest.
Hard to get such quest with the deals you might be looking for, but I would encourage you to try your luck.
So you too can suffer buying 5 packs a time for half an hour and then later give up because you almost reached your stickerlimit
