The one-of-each-bootleg and 100 board quests are kind of obnoxious yeah. Rare-spawn monsters should be blanket excluded from extermination missions I agree.
Which is only turning me More off from completing the game. Which isn't a bad thing, just disappointing.
There are also way too many board quests. You can easily halve the quests needed and the game would be better for that. The only thing that made this part tolerable is lowering both difficulties all the way down, and knowing that the "kill x monster in this area" quest doesn't actually mean you have to kill them in that area.
Anyways, there's no point to force yourself to grind the game if you feel like it's going to make the experience unenjoyable.
With 1 candle you can get all* the bootlegs.
1) Backup your save game.
2) Get a fire bootlget. Get achievement.
3) Copy in your save game from backup
4) You got your candle back, but lost your fire bootleg. Achievement retained. Get a water bootleg.
5) Repeat 3&4 until you have all non-glitterbootlegs!
6) Restore your save one last time to keep the candle for Pinnacle of Evolution.
What you said about glitter is true, so probably not worth doing this until you luck into a glitter bootleg to save time.
