And I don't mind the combat system. The way I see it, the game is very rpg light and is more focused on the storytelling, and that is okay in my book.
Not everything needs to be a gruel and grinding challenge.
"Seeing his friend trapped within the god's grasp, bursting with not only his own worked-up rage but that from the sound of Bruce's random-ass tooting, Verm unleashed a whirlwind of blows. Through that furious onslaught, one might never know which strike was the one to turn Siobhan's cage into merely a hand once again, such was the force of them. Free almost as quickly as they were trapped, Siobhan rationalised calmly that perhaps the wand was ready to fire.
The wheel spun.
The flint sparked.
The tension was oversold.
That gigantic roar of a single flame lived barely a fraction of second but made its lasting impression; disappearing just as quickly as it, did too well over a third of both hands' HP, had they even that much left in the first place."
I mean, I'm not going to get as poetical as Meredith did and I also hate 'Souls' level of difficulty in games; but I would like a healthy balance in whatever this NG+ mode may offer and perhaps a rebalancing that doesn't just see Verm doing an Omnislash every turn.
A challenging fight or even bosses with one big 'death' move adds a lot of tension, and in turn the overall experience. A whole bunch of encounters here seemed really daunting narratively (4 Owls, Viper, White God..) and they gave me a legitimate "Oh Sh*t.." feeling going in which sort of didn't pay off a lot of the time when they're doing ~15 damage to one party member while I'm multi hitting them for hundreds per round.
(I ended up equipping that helmet which dropped your armour into the negatives and I actually had party members die on me, so that was a nice bit of self imposed balance
Do you have a timeframe in mind for the content or achievements? I'm hyped to play but wondering if I should just wait a bit longer?
It feels, to me, like the game is selling itself short when the boss themes are SO gorgeous, the animation SO detailed, and the combat relatively unique and enjoyable, it would be nice to be able to sink my teeth into it more. As it was I never wiped, nor did I ever even come close. It felt like a tutorial. I would've liked some difficulty settings; I hope they'll be considered for any DLC or sequels.
