Large Cooking Pot

Just tried to place down the large cooking pot and it glitched through the map. Is this common with this item or a random bug that decided to show up in my save?

flat surfaces are the best place to put anything in my experience. Half the items I tried placing on the ground on the first island either fell through the map or tipped over sideways until I built wood floors and placed everything onto those instead, it's a shame the first tutorial island only has one flat spot on the very top of the mountain where things don't glitch into the ground on a regular basis.

There is a mod to retrieve items that fell through map, unaware if its for placed items or just mob, resource items

I just placed a large cooking pot on the beach of the beginner island and it fell right through the map, originally had it on a flat grassy area with no problems.

It happened to me too, you need to place a floor

Yeah you need to make the wood floors, or any floor really and place that down before you can put the big pot down

Mine did fine on the sand, maybe glitch maybe not.
