crossplay between xbox and windows: yes
***However***, because the save format for all versions is the same, you can make use of the "restore from backup" feature on the main menu to transfer your save data freely and flawlessly. This also bypasses the cloud sync which afaik is forced to be on for xbox version.
I don't mod my game so it's hard for me to say much about the mod scene. I only know what i've seen/heard from other players, and experienced while helping other people from the discord. Overall, i'd say it's just utility and cheating. Language additions, inventory/skill point enhancers, mob/item spawners, item stack mods and others exist and can make things much easier. I don't see the point in using them as a lot of it breaks what little balance exists and that they've been known to break/corrupt savedata between updates which happen quite often. That also means mods need to be updated very frequently but aren't.
Untrue.
Only ones that can break or corrupt the save data are the inventory/storage ones. And they only need to be updated if a section of code that the mod touches do change.
My current saves (modded) is 1 year and a half old, working perfectly...
1739 days old exactly:
