Made in Japan?
I'm a little concerned about this because, thus far, all of the non-English official statements from Developers have been in Chinese.
Additionally, some official documentation has been hosted on qq.com, a Chinese, Tencent-owned website.
On top of that, the developer currently going by "すいちゃんは今日もか" changed their Steam name from "不良制品", which is again Chinese.
These seem like some pretty big red flags.

I looked at the two outward-facing devs' profiles, and the majority of their friends are in mainland China. I also looked at POCKET PAIR's previous work, which consists solely of a card game known as "Overdungeon 超载地牢", the second half being Chinese for "Overloaded Dungeon".

I think we're being lied to here, but the question is why.

Well based on the trailer, it seems like this is basically an asset rip from games made in Japan, I see the glider animation, hammer swinging animation, sword and shield animations and projectile parry animations all ripped straight out of Breath of the Wild, along with the Dragon Piercer animation and Dual Blades attack animations ripped straight out of Monster Hunter World. Based on that, I'll assume most, if not all animation are simply ripped from other games that I'm less familiar with, and if those games were all made in Japan, is it really that much of a stretch to say this game was made in Japan?

CEO is Takuro Mizobe.
Dev team is 5 Japanese 1 Chinese? I could be wrong.
Chinese people have had a long history in Japan.
Other than political issues.

@MorfYosugara

I found the info about their location and CEO as well. I also read his LinkedIn[www.linkedin.com]. Graduated from Tokyo Institute of Technology, worked on decidedly Japanese projects, etc.

This rather deepens my concerns/confusion about their entire outward-facing identity being Chinese, especially to the point that you have to change the game's language to Simplified Chinese to get proper support, or hosting official documentation on a Tencent-owned website known for allowing Chinese government surveillance[en.wikipedia.org].

Also, I looked into the publisher of Overdungeon, Lightning Games[lightning.games], and they seem to be the international branch of LeiTing Games[www.leiting.com], as seen here[uspto.report].

PocketPair.inc is Japanese.

Overdungeon:
Publisher is Lightning Games (China)
Developer is Pocket Pair (Japan)
https://store.steampowered.com/app/919370/Overdungeon/?l=english
Craftopia:
Publisher is Pocket Pair (Japan)
Developer is Pocket Pair (Japan)

Except Steam forum, Japanese people often use Line or Twitter.
English speakers often use Discode or Reddit. Chinese people often use QQ or Weibo.
Is there a problem?

My 2 cents: I'm a programmer and I like to mod games as a hobby, I decompiled the game to check out what fun stuff could be done. (I won't share the source code, as that would be illegal, you are free to decompile your own legit copy of the game). So far all the commented lines of code, as well as tags are written in Japanese.

Example:

[Header("装備スキル")]
private int equipmentPassiveSkillId;

I can't read kanji, but I know the katakana part says skill (sukiru).

I would translate that to "Equipment skill".
