Engine and firing order
How to know in which order cylinders need to fire? Besides literally examining the crank

it will depend on the type of engine you have and how you lay the crank out, a 4 inline is usually 1324, a 6 inline is 153624, v8 depends if its a flat or crossplane, then i would just recommend looking up on google for that crank, other engine variations you might want to look up as well

Yeah, if you're using a fairly standard engine configuration, looking up the firing order is a good way to go, that's pretty much what I did for the included example engines. Also, the engine tool script mod has a bunch of firing orders built-in to choose from.

Right now, I'm working on a guide to try and explain engine set up a bit more.
just to confirm - does crankshaft angle at specific pistons and piston head firing order has any impact to each other ?
I'm asking because as i built my engines I never tested what would happen if i intentionally misplaced crankshaft angle at one of the pistons

The only impact would be on the engine sound, it won't affect engine performance.

I believe this should have impact for engine power output and how likely engine to stall
and in case when not a single piston align properly, engine should not even start.
As i understand there are less experienced players and people lacking knowledge on this technical stuff - i do not ask to enforce this in default game mode. But i would still like to see this in a "Fuel consumption" mode one day

I agree, it should, hopefully this is something I'll get to in the future!

you can already, an outrageous 300 piston rotor engine (ww1-ww2 planes era) configuration engine can be done, but i doubt the game's engine can handle that thing XD

i was more refering to engines of unorthodox design, different crank shaft setup etc.
