here is the story
you are someone who can easily be forgotten by society, who was taken in by murkoff as a "reagent" who will perform trials until they are deemed good enough to leave. leaving will result in an ending for THAT reagent and you will then make a new one and do the same with new and harder trials and get new endings
most of the story in this game comes in the form of notes/documents of which I havent read despite collecting all of them because story means nothing in this game, the game is purely meant to be played. not enjoyed like a movie or book.
trained by Murkoff for the CIA yup
and you can get lore stuff through being reborn and also collecting in-game files called evidences. The game got a lot of connections to the other games
one lore revelation also basically revealed that if there were no Trials, there wouldnt be Outlast 2
