On Wednesday, March 5, at 11:30 PT | 14:30 ET, Red Barrels hopes you can join their livestream to celebrate together the 1 year Anniversary of The Outlast Trials 1.0 launch! What to expect: A Dev update on what's coming next to The Outlast Trials

The team previously announced Outlast 3. Does the success of The Outlast Trials make that game easier to make, perhaps by funding it and making the IP more popular? Or does it make it harder, perhaps by demanding more resources itself?
- Red Barrels is inherently a small company, and we aim to maintain this size as much as possible. When we embark on another project, it will not come at the expense of reducing resources for The Outlast Trials. This is an ongoing discussion within our team to ensure we balance both our existing commitments and new endeavors. @Alex Charbonneau

As you can see, it was previously stated that work on Outlast 3 is underway. But now the question is “What do you want to see in a single-player Outlast 3 ? (and it might not be a numbered part)”.
Outlast Trials- 3+ million copies. Would a single player game be able to give a good result:?
Now another question. I see some single player games don't have co-op, players are asking to add it. For example in another genre, DRGS game. And there are players who even for horror games think that co-op is needed. And in the end. what do we end up with? After Outlast Trials solo+co-op, get a game that takes a step back and remains a solo game:?
Third point. I know that some players who really like Outlast 1 don't like Outlast 2.
You know, there's Evil Within 1 and there's Evil Within 2, and both games are different, the second part is more open world. And, for example, a game like Ghostwire Tokyo, where there's more open world, streets, I didn't like it at all. Then what should Outlast 3 be like to like:? A corridor or a very open world:? What does it have to have that Outlast Trials doesn't have?
In fact, movies as well as story-single-player games can leave a great impression. But these games are not endless. You've seen the movie and forgotten. You've gone through a story game and forgotten. For example, I have games that I have replayed more than once and now I can return to them. But can this go on forever if you usually replay because you want to get achievements/beat the game on high difficulty (if you didn't do it in the past) and I know that Outlast 2 also wants you to beat it on high difficulty :))
But games are not endless. But in general, games are not endless, and new players may not be interested in older games where the graphics are already bad. Everyone has a different opinion.
And Outlast Trials is made to be replayable - all the same variators, their variety; randomness of key objectives (in what place will appears), not to mention builds (you may want to play through bottles and bricks in priority, or you want and set the roles between friends, in fact, you can make it so that someone will distract the enemy or even lure on himself) or even trials (for example, recently with a friend decided to put the Challenges and for example to pass the weekly trials only with certain rigs or without all 3 amps).
And what can afford a story game:?... Cult story and enemies? Yes. Extra modes:? That's what Trials is for. A single-player game can't be replayable as well as Trials.
All of this is not to say that there shouldn't be a story game. We just have to realize that players have come from past story games, too. It's just that I tried to show the strengths and weaknesses, especially in terms of replayability, co-op. So suggestions to go back to the story game.... but why now:?
Do you miss the story, the plot:? So there are comics on Trials now. There's a further branch of the story with Amelia.
I believe we can get 5-6 seasons of Trials as well, plus get the same amount of prime assets :))
The game should live, besides there were so many suggestions for new modes:
- PVP mode (4 on 1; 4 on 4 and so on);
- a mode where the reagents interfere with each other;
- a mode in the form of an even more serious challenge, for example in a castle with a large number of enemies;
- cooperative reagent release with another player;
- custom mode where you can choose any challenge and variators to your taste;
- a mode that will be harder than Escalation from the start, the hardest trial and have a certain number of trials, for example 10 Trials, 20 trials, they will be very difficult and not infinite;
- a story with Amelia where there will be a choice of “Help and save her and yourself” or “Don't help”, etc.
This is even a small fraction of what was in the early access survey, what I suggested, what others are suggesting on steam, on reddit, etc.
Not all of it will show up, but how can you forget all of that at the cost of having a story game without any of it:? Maybe then you don't want an Outlast 3 story game anymore, but the same cooperative game, but for example there will be less maps but more modes:?
