I attempted to clean install nvidia driver, windows is up to date so is steam. run as admin, whitelist on avast, whitelist on windows firewall, run from the binary folder executable, I have attempted on 5 different ssd wd black 1tb drives. Verify the files, it says a failed corrupted item, attempts to patch, fails and then gives the disk drive error.
The official error states totclient-shipping.exe failed and returned 2. After fresh install the binary file it states vanishes and a copy paste will not fix the return of the exe. No clue what the issue is.
oh, also, my wifes PC similar hardware and windows, duplicate issue at the same time. We were fine a few weeks back. 111hr on game.
If you use a third party anti-virus application you can probably uninstall it. I have seen a ton of Steam games get flagged by third-party AV vendors (Avast, kasparsky, etc) and it ended up being a false-positive. Make sure Windows Defender is enabled and updated after doing so (Microsoft's built in AntiVirus), it's pretty good!
The issue was a bit challenging to sort out but the antivirus concern specifically the app protection on Avast was the culprit.
It started to confuse me that I would run the game from the alternate file selection for the executable and then it would just vanish.
It finally dawned on me that the actual executable was vanishing and there must be a valid reason behind it.
I had to go into app protection on Avast, specifically the quarantined applications menu and create an exemption. This repeated a follow-up time when I installed deep rock galactic with the autumn sale, so now I know to look for this and hopefully this helps anybody else.
The disc write error, had absolutely nothing to do with the solid state drive, it was a factor of trying to repair a file that was immediately placed in quarantine and it would not permit a rewrite of the exact same file name due to the quarantine effect that the antivirus was applying.
Best of luck guys
