What is the point of kicking doors?
the way your character stops, shuffles into position next to the door, scratches their head a bit, kicks the door open, then take a little nap before being controllable again almost guarantees you will get caught in harder difficulties if you're being chased.

even the sprinting door bash seems a little slower than doing the walking open and continuing to run, due to the small pause after bashing the door before you can control your character again. At least the door bash slightly stuns enemies if you want to go past them through the door, but the kick even if it does stun, will still get you killed if you try to slip past because of how long it takes, especially against bigger enemies.
(I'm not really sure of this, that's just what it feels like to me. Plus, doing animations nearby enemies can be dangerous because of their unpredictable instant-damage-during-animation attacks that work even at absurd ranges. Skipping any kick/bash animation negates this risk)

Kicking the door is basically what you do when you haven't gotten the door bashing upgrade yet, but it can be useful if you're being tailed by an enemy and need to rush to the first door you see. If the door is locked, you'll now have to kick it one or more times. Having to check if the door is locked before starting to kick would make you lose a lot of time, maybe enough time for your pursuer to catch up.

Wait, do you mean the sprinting at a door and opening it? Cause I don't feel like that slows you down at all

I also forgot to mention, but kicking a door instead of just bashing it can make you a bit more aware of what's on the other side. The game loves to place mines or other traps very close to the door.

That's what the prescription "Run and Smash Doors" is for. Instead of opening them normally, you just smash them open directly without standing still. Should definitely be one of your first upgrades due to how useful it is next to sliding and Self Defence Technique

Thanks, I wasn't sure if it was something you unlocked or something that is always available. It must have gotten deactivated in escalation.

I was talking about kicking the door (not sprinting through it) as wemer described.
kicking definitely slows you, but as for sprinting through the door and shoulder bashing it, I still feel like the slight pause in the animation after you bash the door makes it slower than just going through the door regularly. Could be just me though, I would want to test it first.

But if you're carrying an item(bleach/ sometimes boxes too) walking with the bash upgrade it will still kick but you'll bash if you run. I think that kinda sucks.
