Does the game get harder?
I am a new player, I am playing through the core therapy mode and so far the game has proved to be very easy and so not scary. The enemies are easily juked and can barely get you, and that's without having leveled speed. Even when they manage to hit you, it doesn't even matter because they do not deplete an entire bar, so the health will regenerate and it will be like nothing happened.

Their behaviour is predictable. If they haven't seen you hiding they will just search for an empty locker. Peeking gets you seen which is cool. This creature hiding in the closet is predictable and is not a threat at all. Nobody is a threat.

I don't even feel a need to use the gadget at all, running is enough. I only died once in total, and that was because my game was hard lagging and I literally could not move. But it turns out that you have several respawns at your disposal that can even be INCREASED through the use of pills. And let's not even talk about all the items scattered around the maps.

And I played this all solo without looking at any guide and without having the aid of any player. It took me 2 hours to figure out exactly how this game works, and it wasn't scary even once to me.

However, I do see that there is an advanced therapy and an extreme. Are these modes just an increased difficulty with the same levels? Or are they new levels? If there is a difficulty increase, is it substantial enough that the enemies actually become a threat?

Hey,

You are not wrong on Genesis being too easy. As for the advanced therapy, the levels/map design does not change, rather the difficulty spikes and players will encounter more EX-Pops and an even more aggressive Prime Asset. I wrote a review as soon as the 1.0 update dropped and what you describing is exactly what I feared new players would experience when playing Genesis, it is way too easy: https://steamcommunity.com/app/1304930/discussions/0/4298194451991879696/

That being said, the game is set for a summer update and that should provide new content for Outlast Trial players, including newbies such as yourself (no disrespect, hope you stick around). Hopefully RB overhauls the difficulty on Genesis to be a little more challenging, your criticism or opinion here matters.

Yes, I think genesis is way too easy. However, I will still stick around if the game gets harder enough. Now I know that the game gets harder which is a relief. Another question, I used to read that the game was really hard for solo players, which has not been my experience. Then I read that some difficulty nerf came at some point and changed that. What was this about?

The 1.0 update is the nerf you are talking about. Before 1.0 the game was in Early Access. During Early access, the regular trials aside from Program X were challenging even for Veterans, and casuals/newbies were introduced to the brutal reality of the trials regardless of the difficulty. I think the nerf was done so as to not scare off newer players from thinking Outlast Trials is too challenging.

So if I understand correctly, the game is now easier at the start so new players are not scared, but it eventually can get as hard as it was in early access. Is that correct?

Yes. The hardest program is program ultra. The only bad thing is that in that program, there are less trials compared to x or genesis. But I suppouse that in the summer update they will add more trials there too.

genesis is braindead easy like the entirety of that program feels like a tutorial, they really fked it up ngl

You missed the best part of this game, and that was in early access when you get your hands on the game the first time and even the first trial of killing the snitch was really tough, I remember me and my buddy spent like 40+ minutes all to fail in the end while waiting for shutle.

Right now after the release the game has become too easy for early programs and you get used to everything, by the time it does get tough you are already accustomed to abilities, have upgrades, know how the mechanics work etc. In the early access you didn't have any upgraded ability and it was scary and challenging.

On advanced and extreme levels, the ais are becoming more aware and do more dmg, some will have more enemies then usual, some areas that were locked or has traps on to them but the difficulty there is pretty much at minimum

in my experience, i'll say its pretty much at a medium diff, no easy or hard in between

Genesis is super easy, but needed just to learn the trials and maps. I have played with too many people who got comfortable on Genesis and then got absolutely molly whopped on Ultra because they were confused about where to go off the rip. The focus at first is to learn the trials without having to really worry about the enemies. Program's X and Ultra will bring a bit more of a challenge.

"people who got comfortable on Genesis and then got absolutely molly whopped on Ultra because they were confused about where to go off the rip" Yes you are very much correct. This is because newbies are not used to the intensity of Ultra and Genesis does not prepare players well enough, aside from Program X (which does not include Pervert The Futterman). The experience playing Genesis and Ultra is similar in contrast with Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde; Genesis is obviously Dr. Jekyll whilst Mr. Hyde is Ultra. As a result, players are going to be confused and unprepared, metaphorically speaking, once Mr. Hyde comes from out the shadows and seriously attacks players (people dying left and right) for the first time..because Ultra is no joke, and neither is Mr. Hyde.

You can have tea in Genesis the same way you can have tea with Dr. Jekyll, you know as the player, that nothing of harm will come your way because Dr. Jekyll is not a monster...therefore there is nothing to really fear. That is how I feel about Genesis.
