Game is called "Outlast Trials"
You complain "It became all about the Trials"
......
It’s closely related to the last two games (Morphogenic Engine were used to condition some of the Ex-Pops) and actually it’s revealed that one reagent became an important character in Outlast 2 (Reagent 1616, wont spoil but you’ll find out who it is once you collect all the related evidences). Even the facility and location have very close connections to Outlast 2. If you want know about the lore and story of Outlast Trials you could also check out the free digital comics in the official Red Barrels website.
Talking about immersion, it’s actually pretty immersive and period-appropriate. The trials is about the CIA’s MKUltra program but with extra steps lmao
The proper third Outlast entry would be released in the future.
Yeah...that's Dead By Daylight. Have you even played this?
HINT: If you want story, try reading. There's ton of it in the game. Have you read any of the evidence you've collected?
You already described the problem here.
Most of the story is in the Evidences, just like how in Elden Ring you have to piece together most of the story from reading texts and descriptions on items rather than it being directly explained to you.
If you've played Outlast 1/2 and/or read the Evidences, listen to the conversations by the Prime Assets and other NPCs in the Sleep Room, it is not difficult to see that there is a great depth in the story and lore.
Also, side recommendation: Check out the film American Ultra. It's a fun take on thr MK Ultra experiments that inspired the game.
Just 10/10 is considered a bait.
And overall, there are already tons of other story games, not every game needs to be super deep with a >30 % cutscene-gameplay-ratio. I'm not that much into horror in general, but i love to play those games, where it is more about knowledge and getting good overall. Might be boring for you, but for me it is good enough that i want to spend a few dozens if not hundreds of hours in the near future in it to speedrun it.
