We need a VR version 🥺
I know that to add VR mechanics to a game, you need to think about it from the very beginning of the game's development. But still, I have a question for the developers, maybe your plans include adapting the game for VR headsets? I would really, really, REALLY really like to play this kind of horror game with complete (almost complete) immersion. 😭

Sadly you're gonna have to wait until VR becomes mainstream, so maybe wait a few decades

If everyone uses your logic, then VR will never become mainstream. If Valve hadn't released Half-Life Alyx (2020), many people wouldn't even consider buying a VR headset. Now there are many VR headsets on the market, incl. at a reasonable price (take the same Oculus Quest 2). Metro Awakening (VR) is due to be released in 2024, which suggests that VR is “mature” enough to make games for it.

the industry does use my logic. i'm just stating a fact. you're gonna have to wait for it to become more mainstream. the release of metro wont suddenly change the fact that ~2% of steam users own a vr headset lmao

It would be good. However most games had VR version and standard version selled as two different games. I hope they make this as the same one.

Maybe comparable to how many people had a VR headset before the release of Half-Life Alyx? Every game that comes out for VR headsets will most likely be installed by 80-90% of VR headset users. What percentage of people who are registered on steam will buy Outlast? Can you calculate the percentage here? You are stating a fact that in fact is not a fact. The fact is that supply creates demand, not the other way around. If Steve Jobs had not introduced the iPhone to the world at one time, who knows what smartphones would be used now. By the way, please take into account the fact that not everyone who owns a VR headset uses Steam VR. Standalone headsets that do not require a connection to a computer are now in use. One way or another, we'll wait and see. There are now 125 million VALID/ACTIVE accounts on Steam. Of these, 2% (according to your words) have VR headsets. And as I wrote earlier, 80-90 people who own headsets play new VR games. Let's take the smallest - 80%. 2% of 125 million is 2.5 million players. 80% of 2.5 million is 2 million players. Multiplying 2 million (players) by the cost of the game - you can easily calculate the potential profit from people who have never played and would not buy Outlast, but would buy it only because it has the ability to play in a VR headset. I’m not saying that you need to develop a project only for VR, but it is possible to introduce the simplest mechanics (button control, movement of sticks, the ability to turn your head) and this would bring additional profit to the developers.

Would be cool, but the game is unnerving as it is.
In VR it could become too scary and uncomfortable to play.

dude, im not even gonna read that. all i said is: you have to wait until this technology becomes more mainstream until you can expect developers to put more money towards VR. that's just..a fact.

So you are the person whose arguments end with your own self. Therefore, in your life there are only you and the games in which you can get all the achievements.

this is too schizophrenic for me

If Outlast doesn't care too much about mods, maybe you could try using UEVR to force VR into it.
nery_thurr Mar 24, 2024 @ 12:36pm
wow
ken Mar 24, 2024 @ 2:55pm
nope, will never happen, the game isn't made for vr at all
Xevicho Mar 25, 2024 @ 12:01pm
Yeah this game just wouldn't work for VR.
Torde Mar 29, 2024 @ 11:55pm
With how spastic the movement can be in this I cant imagine it translating well to VR. Though to be fair I have very little experience with VR other than some music/rhythm games so my opinion doesn't count for much.
