Why Do Reagents Live in Comfort?
Staff and Easternman keep talking about high values, learning to accept yourself alongside pumping full of drugs and literally butchering you by screwing night vision goggles prototype into your skull.
Yet they all live a very comfortable life not even prison has. They have shampoo, soap, radio, bed with clean sheets, gear maintenance, kitchen, access to cigarettes, tea, even most simple thing as toothbrush.

I bought this game back in may, but never asked myself up until now because there is quite a big resonance between the lobby and actual gameplay. Its like if I was going to rape someone but made sure to let them know about it and make it as comfortable as possible.

Basically what @stopitstepbro said. The same way athletes don't train every day nor train for a full day, they need to rest between training sessions. That's why Murkoff provides a normalized environment, so reagents' minds can be broken slowly but steadily and not get obliterated beyond repair like the ex-pop's (I believe they came from project Lathe, which had other flaws that lead to enemies behaving that way, but this could also be a factor that contributed).

We are no communists after all. We are civilized people..

1) it's a multiplayer game, no one would be as invested in designing or buying cosmetics for a bare minimum dirty cell (unless that was half the game's gimmick), you can currently design it that way but the intention is obviously based upon player agency

2) it's not a prison, it's a literal government MK Ultra blacksite. Part of the point behind the comfort vs pain is the constant tug of war on the psyches of patients to allow that brainwashing to take hold. Take it in the same vein as emotional manipulation and abuse.

I'm quite confused about your definition of comfort. For me it looks like the opposite and i'm already living a pretty minimalistic life in RL.

Also things you've listed are the bare minimum for survival. They're training the people, not killing them in a way, that won't make them stronger if they would survive it.

And i guess we've a very different view onto how a good prison looks like.
