Nope, it shares the same universe and tbh its the prequel to the previous outlast games (being set in 1959), but you dont need prior knowledge in playing the previous outlast games given Outlast Trials plays different with different gameplay mechanics and objectives- but it does have interesting lore and revelations that have major impact in the stories of the previous games.
