It really is a mix because it depends on personal experience
I personally had a blast playing through solo

Some people here, cant even let go of the fact that the game is in early access
Overall, Id keep an eye on the steam reviews and those will tell ya how the game is doing

Right now, its pretty awesome

personally, i prefer playing solo. even though there are less enemies, it feels more tense because i have to do every single thing. there are some issues with solo queue i would like to see addressed, but i like the solo experience.

I sort of play single-player. I have voice chat turned off and join a random group of 4, so it's like playing with NPCs. It makes it feel more alive to me, but I keep voice off because I don't want to hear people yelling at me because I suck, lol. I'm having a good time with it this way. I did play a few matches entirely solo and it was fine, but it didn't feel as alive to me

Playing solo is probably one of the worst things you can do in this game, because most trials weren't simply designed for that. Loads of aggressive enemies in every level, no full self-regeneration, can't climb high places or break nailed double doors. Hell, few of them are practically impossible or just take way too much time with all the running and hiding with no one else to take the enemies attention on themselves (Tazing the snitch, pushing the cart of children into a giant sized blender), not to mention the Program X ones that really push it to the limit with all the downsides and stronger enemies. The only time playing solo works is when you're doing the tutorial or the final reborn level (But oh wait, these are the only ones that force you to go solo!).

Solo is hard the firs time you do a trial. Enemies all go for you obv, and its time consuming. And you only get 4 deaths, atm the game is meant to be played with others.

solo is quite okay, the game reacts to fewer players with fewer enemies and more items. with a little practice you can do it quite well. I even got some A+ ranks solo

I played solo until tonight. I like playing solo, but there are issues that need to be addressed. For clarification, I haven’t failed a trial yet.

Group play definitely adds an extra element. I had no idea you could boost other players up, break double doors, etc.

I queued into random lobbies and honestly most people didn’t even talk, and those that did were very polite.

It’s a PVE game so your bad eggs will be fewer and further between.

Solo is much more intense (most of the time). I almost always prefer playing solo in video games. However this game does make me wanna queue up, and I don’t think that’s a bad thing.

Solo is easier, less objectives, less enemies, more resources. Much easier to stealth through the level to get a higher grade

I've beaten Prison Exam trial in solo. It was impossible in coop.

Feels weird because there's so much thought put into this game for coop in mind. It doesn't feel right to play it solo imo, although it's the only quick way of completing each trial atm as there is no damn matchmaking for a specific trial yet

i love both solo and co-op. solo gives a much bigger challenge since you're by yourself but i completed all of the programs solo and with a friend. its honestly really fun both ways

So far I have only played through one trial so far and I went through it solo. I had fun doing it but I definitely saw points throughout where I was like "damn I wish I had someone to play this with so it wouldn't be as hard" and its not too difficult were I couldn't beat it just would have been more fun and a bit easier if I had a squad.
it doesnt seem designed for solo play, theres just a huge abundance of items and the objectives are still the same as they would be on 4 player co-op. it kinda seems tacked on than something worth doing. You also will always get a lower grade than you probably would playing co-op.
