Outlast Trils review: Neither stealthy or scary
For me it comes down to 2 things: It is neither scary or stealthy

Stealth: You really do not have to be stealthy. Unlike in Alien Isolation, being spotted has no real consequences. You just have to outmaneuver the enemies or run away. Which makes them more of a slight irritation while fulfilling minigames.

Scary: It is not really scary because getting caught has very small consequences. The monsters just slowly wear down the health. And if it reaches zero, there is a long bleed out time. And if in that time a friend can not pick you up, you go into spectator mode from which you can be resurrected.

Good review for Outlast trils, now do one for Outlast Trials.

I mean, in both of the other Outlast games if you know what you're doing you don't need to stealth, and the "getting caught has very small consequences"? In the last two games death only meant reloading to a checkpoint...

Also, I have seen enemies "execute" someone which does not give them a bleed out...

I dunno, it's a weird take to have for a co-op focused game set in the Outlast universe, which for me has always been more of a "cool" horror experience as opposed to a terrifying one. It's a neat story between the games/comic, but I never have thought of it as truly horrifying. Sure, it's dark usually, but in both of the other Outlast games you are fully capable of just kinda running through everything and only hiding to reset certain enemies' patrol paths.

Co-op inherently removes tension, but at that point it becomes dumb fun in a gruesome environment. And that's great on it's own.

go post it in Outlast Trils discussion

If you really complain about the damage output, go do program x they completly one tap you in some levels, making it impossible with randoms who just walk around the map and do ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ and get hit the moment you revive them

Very much this. People need to chill. I get it, when I first heard this was going to be a multiplayer game I was disappointed as well but after playing the game my opinion has changed. To anyone who has the same complaints as OP, just wait for Outlast 3. I am still waiting for and looking forward to that as I enjoy this game.

Game is boring as hell, even with a group, no real challenge and as stated its not even remotely scary, what a let down.

tbh i agree with this 100% i have had alot of fun with this but after the tutorial it stopped being scary and was more just good gameplay (for me) its not anywhere near as scary as 1 or 2 and enemy types are repeating in every map. its more a challenge game than horror so far

You can tell who's actually played the game and the hard challenges vs people who just play one level and consider themselves to have seen everything in the game lol.

People don't even try to hide how shallow their opinions really are.

Also I know it's a really difficult thing for people to comprehend but horror games aren't and never have been scary, it's about good gameplay and immersion as that is what makes a horror game good.

All horror games stop being scary after just a few hours of playtime or if you're just not afraid of pixels on a monitor.

Well, alien literally kills you in one hit when it gets you, so it's not the same. not sure why you'd compare this game (where you can take multiple hits) to alien isolation.

Also, this game is better than alien isolation, because the monsters actually show up in game xDDDDD. alien isolation wishes it could be as good as this game.

this hits the nail on the head. outlast trials is fully aware of what it's doing. it focuses less on being terrifying and instead embraces dark humor, disturbing parts and chaotic co-op a lot more. because it's supposed to be REPLAYABLE. horror games usually have almost no replayability, so of course they have to shift the focus. this is a very obvious design choice
