Yeah that's a good idea. There's many things they could do, I just genuinely get the impression that they don't understand what their priorities should be with a live service coop game like this.
I'm not very hopeful. Yes, it's okay to make mistakes in early access - but when they are so fundamental, it's a very obvious sign that even the most crucial research wasn't done. Resources have already been wasted on systems that clearly don't work or are outdated - And if you read their latest announcement, with their "matchmaking suggestion" system they are willing to waste even more resources on a system, that is going to have the exact same problem as the last one. These aren't philosophical problems, where trying out solutions brings you to a good result - These are very clear, structural problems with a very clear solution. So when I see a collective team of people, especially one consisting of programmers who should be able to do this kind of structural thinking, make the exact same mistake multiple times - That proves to me, that there's some very fundamental internal problems which might not ever get fixed. Especially if it is dependent on the managemement part of the team - And that will ultimately be the demise of a game like this one.
I ignored everything after that.
the heal, mine, xray and such is cool but imagine if they had a few more. I could see one being a deployed barricade for example. you can barricade doors and windows quickly by using it on them (basically adds a defense to that thing to make it take a lot longer to break down)
upgrades could be along the lines of faster use regen, having 2-3 deployables, being able to use it from the start, and maybe the last upgrade being able to open doors you have secured as to make them sturdy but still usable.
just an example.
I would also love to see a tad more put into the room decoration. allow us to really clean up the room, get different bed and sink models etc.
maybe even add in a "general decor" slot as well where we can change the small things in the room like the random books, plates, and other misc items in the room to allow for more general decoration that helps distinguish different rooms better.
lastly. cut down the fade to black and go through cutscenes thing. its so tedious having to go through the shuttle, go through a black screen, then sit in a chair, watch a cutscene, go through a shuttle another black screen.
its just a really long and tedious loading screen that needs to have an option to skip it. or atleast shorten it or something.
so far im loving the game, really my vibe (wish my friends didnt hate anything horror related so I could play with them but meh) but I definitely can see lots of ways that the game can improve as well.
Wasn't directed at you - But thank you for bumping the thread so maybe they'll see it.
Yeah all of these are great ideas for replayability - but I think first and foremost they should focus on fixing the systems that are literally splitting the playerbase apart and preventing some people from even playing the game.
allow us to (make parties before choosing a trial)
but also allow us to (Join a trial by searching for party doing that trial)
seems extremely logical. plus it would still make sense. because there are tons of active participants in the trials at once we can say the random team we join is just some other people who are also doing the trial. the only difference is we dont have the tedium of sitting in the sleep room waiting for anyone who is willing to accept the trial you choose after they join.
I believe most games call this "quick join" for a reason. I just wanna do my thing with a group i dont want to have to negotiate in a common room for maaaaybe a decent team
Yeah, the whole negotiation thing or "get lucky that you get the thing you actually wanna play" has to go. It doesn't make any sense in a coop game like this. If a game like Payday had this, I would not be playing it. I wanna play the content that I actually enjoy playing.
I HOPE that it's only because the team wants to try doing it their own way and learn from their own mistakes rather than just doing it like others have done it before - but I doubt that's the reason. And even if that was the reason, that's still not a good reason.
I seriously think it's looking bad, because the plans they have presented to fix these outdated systems show the exact same issues again - they have demonstrated that they do not understand, what the issues with the current systems are. That's why I seriously don't think people who work jobs such as programming would ever make these kinds of mistakes, because people who work those jobs understand that you always have to approach problems from the ground up and not somewhere in the middle by trying out whatever sounds cool. That's why I'm heavily leaning towards bad team coordination or management having the upper hand.
Super sad to see so much potential go to waste.
Honestly seeing how Outlast Trials has gone so far - I agree with you. Singleplayer seems to be their strength and if they can not research the most basic stuff and just copy already perfectly working systems from other live service coop games.. then they can not sustain this game.
Thanks, I'm also a pretty big fan of their work, so I was really happy to see them attempt to make a long lasting Outlast game like this with many updates to come - But the matchmaking bullet points they wrote with their latest announcement seriously took away all the hopes & dreams I had for now. Not a single argument they wrote makes any logical sense - and their proposition for the new voting/suggestion system doesn't make any sense either because it has the exact same problem as the current one (People who lose the vote or don't like the suggestion will just leave). When there's such fundamental problem solving issues going on for such fundamental systems, then that shows some very deep internal issues in my opinion. There's no way a group of people sat down and came up with these points - and I mean that literally, not in a cynical way. I genuinely believe that these points make no sense to anyone who sat down to actually think about the matchmaking system as it is currently implemented. Either a manager is dictating these terrible ideas or someone who doesn't really know what they're doing was assigned to this task.
I'm sure we'll get some enjoyment out of this game whenever they add new trials - But for how long? I was hoping this could be a long lasting thing, which brings them a consistent stream of profit to keep the game alive. As it currently stands, that wont work out if they keep going down this road.
