general questions from a new player
- Are the janky animations and parts of the visuals a result of early access, the nature of a multiplayer game, the new engine or what? Character models and art direction are better, but everything else doesn't feel nearly as good as in the previous games in the graphical department. Even in the single-player only introduction, I noticed awkward animations and parts of the visuals that just feel strange. For example, sneaking from hiding spots is usually so limited. It's genuinely a useless function most of the time, because our character doesn't move enough. Considering the devs want to get out of Early Access by the end of the year... I wonder if these visual parts will be changed by then?

- one of the loading tips claims I can limit matchmaking options, but where? I would like to play with people who are also beginners, not people who already know precisely what to do and are aiming for big ranks. I just feel like a nuisance that way

- On the topic of knowing what to do, is it me or is this game incredibly confusing and convoluted? The previous Outlast games were, but only on their story. At least objectives were simple. This one seems like it's overdoing it on both its envinronments and player objectives. I don't understand the enemies, aside from the fact they're... well, more test subjects from Murkoff and some experiments get me going around aimlessly from the lack of instruction. Like, why am I supposed to collect posters? Which way should I go? I was completely lost the first time I played one. Sorry if this all might seem dumb, but the whole game feels confusing for me and I'm really trying to understand it, but it's especially difficult with all that and what seems to be a mediocre translation to my language and subtitles not working half the time

- Are any of the levels actually fit for solo gameplay? The envinronments are so large that it's easy to get lost and not find a single small battery for a good while. Is it worth playing solo to get used to some levels or even if I don't like multiplayer or is the game not gonna be for me, in those cases?

- Could the Vulkan API ever become selectable in the graphics menu? Or not?

- There are no cloud saves. I do change devices a lot for a personal reason and would hate to lose progress and need to backup manually everytime. I'm okay for now with skipping the intro everytime I move to a new device, but I have to know if my progress with the other experiments is saved on-line in my account or if those are local-only, too? This is a play or wait question for me

i cant answer most of your questions but as far as posters go they are required if you want to get the highest score that being A+. Also solo gameplay is completely viable for both learning the map layouts and just playing normally as the objectives you need to complete are reduced based on the number of players in the lobby ( instead of turn on 4 generators turn on 1 generator ect ) it might be harder to get into as a solo tho because to my knowledge the enemy spawns are not reduced, Hope this could be of help

I watched someone solo Kill the Snitch and I couldn't figure out where all the enemies were. I think he may have been on the easiest difficulty, though, since I didn't see many traps either.

yeah difficulty affects enemy's, traps, and hiding spots but the map layout is always the same so even easy difficulty is helpful for that because it gets alot more intense trying to A+ project x missions so having map knowledge is super helpful

I'm gonna level with you here: I'm trash at horror games. Could not play the original Outlast, couldn't do more than 20 minutes with Amnesia. Run-and-hide horror are usually not my strongsuit.

But I am absolutely obsessed with this game for some reason, and will probably be buying it soon. Them making solo a bit easier really sold it for me, and I feel like doing co-op with (patient) people would make this a good introduction into the genre.

But yeah, even though I haven't played it, I've watched enough gameplay vids that I mostly have the maps memorized. I know where to look for traps and whatnot. The only thing holding me back is how hard the Fun Park trials seem.

In the snitch trial you can trap both giant ogre enemies in the garage door on the way to the generators. By doing so you are left with only Coyle to deal with. I frequently play the final snitch exam on project X solo because it’s faster if you use this method.

By the way the game has cloud save even tho it’s not mentioned. I play on both pc and steam deck and I can see it upload and sync the saves.

the root canal mission is by far the hardest mission in the game and the last project x variant of it is the only mission i havent got A+ but it is still possible as solo and hopefull more maps will be coming soon and the coop is really fun if you play with the right people ( not the angry children ) also when it comes to traps if you crouch before opening a door you dont get hit by it :)

Nifty. I'll have to remember that.

You're definitely making me want to buy the game even more
