Won't Even Start...

I try to start the game, I press play, a screen comes up for a second or two but then it closes itself right away. How do I fix this? It doesn't say anything, it just stops working. I want to play it. I have it on Windows 7, but I was able to play Half-Life fine.

Not alot of people play Blue Shift these days, because of this, the topic won't get alot of replies - However, i'll try and lend a suggestion.

I fixed the problem just recently, by adding Blue Shift to the DEP list in Windows 7.

Windows 7 is victim to certain programs not working, because of it's "DEP (Data Execution Protection)" mechanism kicking in to block certain games from launching properly. You can see this happening if the program loads, then closes immediately.

On Windows 7, Go to and find the following in Control Panel > System > Advanced system settings > Performance (Settings) > Data Execution Prevention (Tab section).

If "Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select" is selected, go to the Add button below, and navigate to your steam directory > steamapps > [your username] > half-life blue shift > and add "hl.exe" in this directory to your exception list. Make sure it's ticked in the list (it should appear as 'Half-Life Launcher') and you click the apply button to finalise the change.

If you're running Half-Life at 1920x widescreen resolution (16:9 ratio), you can use the console commands in-game 'fps_max 100' & 'default_fov 106.270273206' to adjust the screen for best frame rate output & Field of Vision.

This DEP (Data Execution Protection) issue also happens in Windows XP/Vista. If you set control panel to "classic view" you can follow Liquidus' instructions exactly.

I have the same problem, now. My other GoldSrc games are working. But Blue Shift just pops up and vanishes.

Well, my problem its the same but for HL1 and all his mods, it starts with Gordon Freeman's face and then closes... Where can I find DEP settings on Windows XP? (My PC its fine, Runs Gmod at 50 FPS with all graphics on high mode...)

When i run the game its just a black screen. You can hear the noise of the ,New Game, button and others by running over them with the mouse but you cant see anything , its just a black screen. Im on Windows 7 ,64 bit. I bought the whole half life bundle but, Blue shift, Opposing force, Team fortress classic and the original Half life dont work.Same thing as Blue Shift

Similar problem. I've already had to add hl.exe to DEP exceptions, and HL and OP4 work, and mods but blue shift freezes after I click Play on the new game dialog box.

I noticed console commands don't do anything. I tried "map ba_tram1" - nothing. So then I tried "bind mouse1" - again, nothing. didn't tell me what it was bound to (which is what it would normally do), then typed "exit" - hah, nothing

Also, if i hit the console key (~), console goes away, but then i can't get it back

Anyone able to type into console and get no response?
