Half-Life: Blue Shift

Half-Life: Blue Shift

What is different?
What's the difference between this and the original Half-Life besides the graphics?(which I heard sucks compared to the original)

There's nothing stopping you from looking at gameplay footage and images of Half-Life with or without the HD pack.

Blue Shift has a paralel storyline, where you're Barney, not Freeman.

The different storyline :steamfacepalm:

besides the storyline bruh....

The different maps, the different characters, the different storyline, that's it really. Some of the weapon animations are slightly changed.

alright, thanks! I'm assuming that most or if not some of the enemies have changed too.

Not that I can recall off the top of my head.

I've been hearing alot that the Blue Shift is pretty inferior to the original game. Most complaints were aimed towards the enemy AI, the graphics, certain map designs, bugs and glitches and other small details.

I mean, other than the shorter game length, I think it's just fine. There's no way the graphics can be inferior considering they use the same engine and most of the same assets. The AI from what I recall was no worse or better than Half-Life's, same with the map design, and I don't remember any bugs or glitches that prevented me from enjoying the game. I quite liked the game overall, being able to play from Barney's perspective was quite cool.

I've read that Blue Shift was orginally going to be released as an upgrade to Half-Life on the Dreamcast before that game got cancelled and moved to the PS2

Well, not exactly. Half-Life was going to be ported to the Dreamcast by Gearbox software in 2001 or so, but it was cancelled due to the fact that the Dreamcast pretty much died at that point, and Blue Shift was to be included in the port. After it was cancelled, Blue Shift was released on PC. The PS2 port of Half-Life is Half-Life: Decay, which features splitscreen co-op and and different characters.

I wished it came out on the Dreamcast. I've read it was actually cancelled not only because the Dreamcast was pretty much dead in the US and Europe(It was actually doing pretty well somewhat in Japan), but apparently because "changing market conditions" as claimed by the publisher Sierra On-Line two weeks before it was released. Though if its true that Blue Shift was going to be included in the Dreamcast version, I'm wondering how they would include it. From what I've read and this could wrong because of lack of info,Half-Life would've been pretty demanding on the Dreamcast since the near final rom shows a bit of framerate problems, long loading, and it consumes a lot of blocks on a VMU depending on which area of the game you're in, though this could be because it needed more development time, i'm wondering how they could include both the original and Blue Shift in one

The game was leaked on the internet and I have it on the Dreamcast. It's how I first discovered Half-Life, which was in 2007 or so when I was 7 years old.

I saw that too about a year ago, the near final rom which can be burned on to a Dreamcast disc. The first time i've discovered Half-Life was when I was about 9 years old and my brother got it on Steam, but i didn't start playing it until recently because i didn't have Steam at first or a good PC.
