Half-Life: Blue Shift

Why is the title of the game called "Blue Shift"?
I mean. Blue Shift is the theroy of the universe getting smaller right? So does that mean that the Half Life galaxy is more connected? Or is it because Barney is blue?

Others have already discussed the game title, but I need to correct the scientific inaccuracies in the thread.

Blue shift and Red shift refer to the Doppler effect as it pertains to light-emitting bodies. As a light-emitting body moves further away, the wavelength increases, shifting the observed light closer to the red end of the spectrum. As a light-emitting body moves closer, the wavelength shortens, shifting the light closer to the blue end of the spectrum. This is where the terms red shift and blue shift originate. The spectral shift only occurs if there's relative movement of the observer toward or away from the emission source. The observation of red shift in cosmology is evidence for the expansion of the universe.
In English, please?

I'll try to going from English to Cro-Magnon.

[Cro-Magnon]
Listen to train.

Train come toward you sound higher.
Train not moving sound normal.
Train goes away from you sounds lower.

Now not listen to train. Look at star.

Star moves toward you really fast it turns blue.
Star not moving looks normal.
Star moves away from you really fast it turns red.

Why they do that? Both are waves. Waves do that. Wanna know why? Evolve and learn science.[/cro-magnon]

Now if you don't understand that then all that's left is Neanderthal, but the problem with Neanderthal is that that unless it deals with food, fire, fighting, or f****** the vocabulary is rather limited.
