Need Half Life Installed? / Work on Windows 7?

I was curious if you need the original Half Life installed for Blue Shift to work.

I tried installing it to try playing it again years after I last played it and when I launched it on Steam it changed the icon to the blue "Running" icon or w/e but nothing happened. No game popped up, nothing.

And when I tried clicking the button to Stop Running the game it wouldn't work. I went into Task Manager and closed the process for Blue Shift and every Steam process and relaunched Steam and it STILL had the blue icon saying the game was running and still wasn't clickable to stop it.

And because it thought the game was running it wouldn't let me interact with anything else like Verifying the game files because it said to close the game first. Eventually I restarted the PC and started Steam again and it didn't say it was running anymore but it freaked me out so I just uninstalled the game and deleted all of the folders it installed that were left over.

The folder was just "Half Life" after I installed Blue Shift. I didn't have Half Life or Opposing Force installed at the time and after reading some topics I found a few things that made me curious.

Blue Shift is a mod for Half Life apparently, right? People seemed to think it should install the Half Life files you need when you install Blue Shift but I was curious if it didn't work because I didn't have Half Life installed. It did add the files under a Half Life folder though so maybe it did install those files, idk.

Also I've seen multiple people saying the old Half Life games don't work well on Windows 7, especially 64 bit. So I'm not sure if it just won't work anymore no matter what I try.

I'm hoping someone can give me some advice, otherwise I kinda don't want to try it again on my own and have it mess up again. Thanks.

The expansions, including TFC, now include the needed Half-Life files. This makes it so that you don't need the original game.

Same problem, just bought it and exactly the same problems, Windows 7 x 64 bit. Good job it was only 78p.

Refund requested, I`m going to see if I can root out Half Life Generations and install the old version.
