True, good thing the game hasn't been in development for 2-3 years. It entered pre-production in 2020, and true full development most likely started somewhere around 2021, so it's been about 1 year of active development.
My guess is, we'll start to see gameplay reveals around 2023, and an actual release somewhere around Q4 2024 - Q3 2025.
99% of the time when a company uses the last day of the year as a release date it is being used simply as a place holder and is not going to be the actual release date.
People are upset by unrealistic extremes. Releasing a game that obviously isn't ready isn't good, but being Star Citizen leaves you a joke too, especially since after a certain point you'll never release good enough to have been worth the wait and will have to deal with lots of problems, like technology and graphics outpacing your development so you "omg the most advanced game ever" ends up looking like a last gen joke.
Nope, don't use Discord and never will, and this is a pretty common sentiment. Discord users are an minority (same as Twitter). Why devs refuse to use the Steam forums (also a minority, but far higher chance of reaching new potentional customers) and instead insist on social media platforms I'll never understand.
Same goes for me. If somebody wants to sell his game on Steam, then communicate on Steam. Im not willing to add 100 discord servers to watch upcoming games... lol
We post main news on Steam and Twitter, but the main discussions are on Discord.
Anyway, if you want to join our Discord - discord.gg/gothic
Yeah, Kynseed recently came out "complaining" that people apperantly didn't get the memo\information they put out, as they were sharing all their info on Discord or Twitter, which just reinforce that it really is a minority that use these platforms for game-related info.
Discord\Twitter has about the same amount of users and engagement as self-hosted forums used to, but the nature of these platforms and how communication is done, make it seem like there's more of them. Steam always have\had an higher user retention than that of self-hosted forums when looking at it from single platform percpective, which is why so many devs stopped making those forums.
To then go to an less-efficient for information retainment social media platform is just mind boggling to me. It's like we're back to the age of mailing lists...
That said, does it HAVE to say "coming soon", when it clearly will take a long time still? It's such a tease in my wishlist.
There is no release date, so we can work calmly with no pressure and have a perfect game on release. When we will be sure, that game is perfect and ready for the players, we will publish the release date.
In January, Valve is going to stop slapping devs that toy with release dates like they rightfully should, so it should be more uniform and the "coming soon" list should actually start to make sense.
