Gothic 1 Remake

Gothic 1 Remake

More clunky than OG gothic and without any decent art style
Congratulations devs, not only you managed to make the game nearly as clunky as the OG but you destroyed its signature art style in the process.

Congratulations again.

It also ruined art works on the loading screens, music is somehow mixed and whats more the characters move like an inexperienced dev programmed them, this has no place in a big release like this by supposedly experienced studio...
Lip sync is tragic, honestly and diego's teeth don't even show when he is talking so he looks like he hasn't got them.

Obviously you are not an artist and you have no idea. Please devs don't listen to these guys, the demo is great!

The control scheme is absolutely terrible, I don't even know how they managed to topple the original, that was already clunky af. They should modernize controls, not try to make it work in 2025

yes yes great demo

-talk to someone and scream ''HEY YOU'' everytime
-npcs need to rotate for like 3 seconds in order to talk to you
-takes 5 seconds to loot anything
-animations are average as hell
-the art style is more realistic slop we saw 100 times before, nothing unique about it
-sensitivity slider is bad because I guess the devs play with 300dpi or something
-lip syncing is bad

if this game came out in 2009 it would still be bad

keep coping

I disagree about the graphics—I think they’re really good and exactly what I’d expect from a remake. However, I completely agree about the combat system. It’s janky, and while I get the desire to stay true to Gothic 1, I don’t see why they stuck with the same clunky mechanics. Combat needs to feel more fluid, and creatures should telegraph their attacks better. Adding an optional real-time pausing system, like Fallout’s VATS, could also help make it feel more refined, or better yet something like Baldur's Gate 3.

Graphics and art style are 2 different things, I am talking about art style
Schiggy Feb 24 @ 11:54pm
The game has no artstyle.
Its this high graphics Unreal Engine 5 with some Playstation 3 Level assets.
It looks super inconsistent and awful.

And additionally the whole lighting is fked.
its either way to dark or way too bright.
you cant really look further than 15m ahead of you because it becomes so dark/bright in the distance with this blurry unreal engine 5 look.

Coming from KCD2 this game feels like from 2007

Do you want the art styles of Dragon Age: The Veilguard, Overwatch, or WoW? I remember Gothic 1’s art style was all about realism—at least as much as was possible in the late ‘90s and early 2000s—and I see that same approach in the demo, thanks in large part to Unreal Engine 5.

Seems like this game is not for you, NOBODY who played the original Gothic wants a combat system from the other games.

Honestly, I never liked the combat system in the original game—I thought it was clunky even back then. This is a great opportunity to improve it.

Artists and consumers have different tastes, consumer tastes bring the money.

The art style for games doesn't matter to me much, it's just extra flavor.

The combat though...

Played the original, don't care about the old style combat.
It's outdated for a reason.

Implying that old gothic had a good combat system really tells me all I need to know, considering its been the number 1 complain when gothic came out lmao, you are a tourist my boy you dont even know. The RPG elements are what made gothic good, the need to use your weapons to be better. Not its actual combat system. This demo is bad and so is the remake, the devs have 0 critical thinking, they just went to revamp the environments and keep all the garbage from gothic in. This is a glorified remaster, consume it.

There is no art style in this game. It is another unreal Engine 5 game.
You will never tell the difference between this and any other ue5 game.
