Whats wrong with trading
I've been playing for quite a while now. And I'm still amazed at how this game calculates prices at the merchants.
Wolf, who “trades in furs and hides” and “gives me a good price,” offers just as bad prices for my furs as all the other merchants. The first fur for 3 ore, the rest for 2 or even less. What kind of prices are these? I have to sell 100 furs just to recoup the ore I spent on the skill.
Also, Wolf is a “hunting goods merchant,” so he should have good prices for arrows and other goods. Then why do arrows cost 2 ore each from him, while they cost 1 ore from Silas the tavern keeper!

If I want to sell something in “bulk” to Cipher, e.g., Bloodfly Wings, I get 1 ore per wing, because the prices drop so drastically after the first 5 pieces that they’re only a quarter of what the first item would have brought in.

I understand that the game needs balancing when it comes to prices, but the merchants’ current pricing policy—where everything is worth just 1 ore even if they specialize in it—is just plain stupid.

Even if I buy arrows in bulk from a merchant, for example, the price doesn’t go down because I get a volume discount. No, the price goes UP... What’s with this nonsense?

I’d be in favor of revising the pricing structure again. For example, I think weapon prices should stay the same as they are now, but everyday items like water, rice, beer, bread, joints, arrows, and animal trophies should fetch better prices.

It would also be helpful if it were immediately clear which goods the merchant buys at a good price and which ones I’d be better off selling to another merchant. The current system is completely opaque.

Eco is rubbish and linked to all traders within the camp it seems, I feel like I wasted ores on all the Animal skinning skills
*sigh*

The "merchants" are prisoners who have "specialized" or found themselves specialized in their expertise. Their goal isn't to trade and grow their small businesses; they need nothing. And suddenly you arrive, and you're one of the few who needs their knowledge, their equipment. Just as you progress and obtain things by completing quests, which are mostly favors to be done, here these merchants are primarily thieves and murderers who aren't particularly interested in selling or teaching. You need them; they don't need you. And so they rip you off. It's up to you to go around to the vendors and sell in small quantities to maximize your profits.
Wolf is a trader which esacialy said bring me hides and pelts i make you a good price. There is no "good price" when i sell them to him. The NPC does either lie or the game ignores this "request" of the NPC and the player which acordingly wants to trade exactly those goods.
Likewise like Chipher which states i am interested in "larger amounts" and then makes the same bad prices as everyone.

This has nothing to do with they are prisoners ....
The new trading system is not polished and needs fixing!

And you believed him.
Like some believed Trump when he said vote for me, cause if you vote Harris there will be wars and rising prices.
The new trading system is clearly meant to make the early game more challenging. Vendors have close to no nuggets, prices are ridiculously low and after selling a few items, they aren't worth anything at all. So basically, making money is very hard early on. So buying skills is hard, early on. And so, you *must* go for lockpicks and open all chests.
With retrospect, I understand that the devs of the remake wanted to "balance" things to prevent veteran players from getting godlike quickly, which they could on the original game. However, the result is that the remake has lost a lot of the original game's freedom. That's a shame.
You dont need the Animal Skills early on really.
If You Maximize Profits by effectively selling a few Pieces to each Different Trader that Buys them. You can at least get Your Investment Back with some Work.
But You really wont make any Big Profit on this Early on as Scavenger and Wolf Parts etc are just not worth much.

You should however get the Skills before Heading into Later Chapters and Higher Level Areas.
Because the Bigger Enemies You meet Later can have Furs where the First 5 Pieces Pay like 20 Ore each. So each Trader giving You like 100 Ore for the First Batch of 5.
Meaning at this Point You will actually Miss out on Easy Money if You dont have the Skills at that Point.
I had the same issue with selling fur, I wanted to do something crazy and invest in learnig how to skin animals for fur, 250 ores gone and I saw that they offer me 2 ore per 1 fur in every merchant I could find. I decided to reload save and lost like 30 mins of playing :Gorn:
They should add some options to sell a stack of specific items to traders.
Otherwise the hunting skills are more or less useless.

For example Wolf who graves for wolf furs should buy a bunch for a fixed price. This way only people who invest in hunting skills can profit of it.

Yes, we did because what's the point in lying to your potential customer? Sure he's a prisoner like the rest of us, but there's no point in going to a vendor who will low ball you after you risked your life for pelts or teeth. Trophies should have two fixed prices - base price and low price, but never zero. Like 10 ores for a Wolf pelt and then 4 after selling too much. Just an example.

And why are you bringing Trump into this? TDS much?

Well, Trump is a stupidity-meter, so I use it.
Even a little price increase in comparison to other traders would make sense. How much ore is the skill? 250? I don't remember it too well, and I do trust that the devs made the game in a way that the skill, at the very least, pays for itself eventually, but wolf skins sell for 2 at every trader. To me it seems like a huge oversight to not make the first few furs in a fresh trade with Wolf somewhere in, idk, a 5N range.
It has to be at least A LITTLE better - I make more money by selling green novices for a fraction of the investment and a fraction of the time it takes to kill wolves on every refresh.
I assumed the animal trophy skills were as worthless as they were in the original, and skipped them. Glad i did lol
There is a guy that trains you for free to skin animals. You can find the first book in the new camp. On the outskirts when you follow mortag there will be a hunter, go find the book and go back to him. He will train you on how to remove skulls.

The more books you find the more free trophy skills you earn

They weren’t, you could easily get your money back just by hunting a few wolves in the original. In the remake you just waste a lot of ore and skill points on them because you just can’t sell anything

Only teeth are worth it. Swamp shark teeth sell for 100+ or a piece
