Hey there, everyone! We’ve been anxious to share this news, and the day is finally here: Wartorn, our real-time tactics roguelite, is launching in Early Access on June 17, 2025! It’ll be priced at $29.99, but for launch week, you can grab it for just $19.99.

If you played our Steam Next Fest demo (huge thanks to everyone who did!), you just got a taste of what Wartorn’s combat is about. However, we are also excited to share more details about what the larger game will be like! Including the roguelite progression system, larger narrative, and more! See below for some of these details and visit some of your favorite gaming outlets as they are sharing their preview coverage now too!

Led by our Creative Director, Paul Hellquist (who was lead designer on BioShock and creative director on Borderlands 2), the game follows two elven sisters on a heartfelt quest to reunite their family. You’ll face tough choices and dive into thrilling battles using elemental and physics-based systems. We’ve been hard at work since the demo, and we’re so excited to show you what’s coming in Early Access.

What to Expect in Wartorn

Here’s a quick look at the core of the game:

⚔ Tactical Combat: Wield fire, water, lightning, and more to outsmart enemies. Ignite tar, electrify puddles, or destroy the battlefield to gain the upper hand. Every fight feels dynamic and unique.

🧨 Destructible Environments: No two battles play out the same, thanks to physics-driven chaos that lets you reshape the terrain.

⌛ Slow-Time Feature: Need a moment to think? Slow down time to plan your moves and issue precise commands, making even intense fights approachable.

🎨 Stunning Art: Our painterly visuals bring the world to life, with heroes, enemies, and landscapes that look gorgeous, even in the game’s darker moments.

Brand-New Reveals

We’re thrilled to share some features we’re showing off for the first time today:

➕ The Villa Hub: Meet the Villa, your adventure’s home base! It’s packed with interactions for upgrades, weapon changes, passive abilities, and more… and a cozy vibe.

➕ Roguelite Progression Systems: Dive into the full progression system, where you’ll unlock heirlooms, trinkets, upgrade heroes, gain new abilities, and more! It’s your chance to master the game’s core loops and see how every run builds on the last.

➕ Upgraded Combat: Since the Steam Next Fest demo, we’ve added more unit variety to the core combat, giving you even more ways to strategize and dominate the battlefield.

➕ Expanded Narrative: Get ready to experience Wartorn’s larger story! Your dialog choices and decisions will shape the sisters’ journey, with emotional moments that hit hard.

➕ Overworld Map: Explore the Overworld Map, which shows off the massive scale of your journey. With branching paths and unexpected outcomes, every choice leads to new challenges. Be sure to monitor your hope, your food, and take care of your squads!

Why Early Access?

We’re launching in Early Access because we want you—our incredible players—to help shape Wartorn’s future. Other great games became amazing thanks to community feedback, and we’re taking the same approach. Since the demo, we’ve polished combat, added new units, and built out the Villa, Overworld Map, and story. Now we need your thoughts to make Wartorn even better. This is our journey together!

Blurry graphics?

Just played through the first four levels of the demo. The concept looks great! However, the graphics all appeared very blurry to me and it was difficult to distinguish the different models. Was it a problem on my end? I played with many graphics settings but couldn't make it have visual clarity....

Initial demo feedback

So I just played the Wartorn combat demo and overall, I think the game looks and feels really promising. I figured I could give a couple of points of early feedback, despite only having played for 37 minutes so far and having only just finished all the combat scenarios for the first time. Seriously, who came up with the idea of starting Steam Fest on a Monday during a normal work week? The audio-visual presentation is top-notch, no notes there. Wartorn Updates – Your Feedback in Action - April 11, 2025

Hey there, Wartorn community! I’m thrilled to share the latest scoop on what we’ve been cooking up for the game following the release of our Combat Demo. You’ve been dropping some incredible feedback, and we’ve been all ears—tweaking, building, and polishing Wartorn based on what you’ve told us. Here’s a rundown of the updates we’re bringing to the table when we launch in Early Access here very soon! 👀

Squad Controls: More Power in Your Hands

You asked for smoother squad management, and we’re delivering. Now, you can queue up move and attack commands for your squads—no more babysitting every step. We’ve also added a squad select screen where you can pick the order they roll into battle. Want your toughest units leading the charge? You got it. Oh, and you can assign squads to hotkeys 1-5 however you like. It’s all about giving you total control.

Options Menu Overhaul

We heard you loud and clear that our demo did not have enough options for you to tweak. We knew this going in, so we are happy to say that we're beefing up the options menu big time for Early Access. Think full-on graphics settings, audio sliders—everything you need to tailor Wartorn to your setup. Whether you’re maxing out the visuals or tuning the sound to catch every battle cry, it’s your call.

Visuals That Pop

We’ve updated the post-processing and upgraded unit textures and materials to make them stand out sharp and clear against the environment. We still have our unique art-style that we are proud of, but we are continuing to refine this experience so that every squad’s going to look epic and run smoothly.

More Missions, More Units

Variety’s the name of the game here. With our combat demo, we intentionally kept it very limited… focused on… well, combat. We have lots more to show soon, including the larger Roguelite progression systems, our Homestead… etc, but for now.. say hello to Warlord Battles—a fresh battle type to mix things up. More details will be shared soon, but it's something for you to chew on. And for units? We’ve more than doubled the number of unit trees from the original set, plus every tree now has Tier 2 options. That’s a ton more strategies and combos to play with—bring on the chaos!

Smoother Pathing & Navigation

Pathing’s getting some big improvements too. Squads can now glide through friendly units without tripping over each other, and waypoints make plotting your moves a breeze. We’ve also added off-screen indicators so you always know where the action’s at. No more getting lost mid-fight!

Melee Combat & Unit Roles

Melee battles are about to feel way better, especially when three or more squads are slugging it out—less clunk, more punch. Plus, we’ve sharpened unit roles: Tanks soak up damage, DPS dishes it out, and Support keeps everyone standing. Every unit’s got a job, and it shows.
