Would've solved so many problems...
To be fair I've always been playing on the highest Cruciball level but still
Play with no cruciball and with the start char. It should take not more then 3 to 5 runs with a little luck and good planing to unlock a char (which makes it to max 15 runs to get all three :) )
Here's an example for you. Which do you think would have an easier time of unlocking Balladin: A satchel consisting of 12 orbs, 8-10 of which are duplicated lvl 1-2 bulwark appliers; or one with only 3 orbs, 1-2 of which are lvl 3 bulwark appliers? The latter blows the former out of the water.
I got all 3 of the unlocks on my first tries when actually aiming for those builds. These are not challenges that require much luck; the rarer achievements like forming the Assemball or succeeding a run with 2 eggs are, and yet I still only spent a total of 15hrs on this game to achieve all of them (except for cruciball which I cba with, as it sounds too RNG-heavy and therefore not fun at all).
Yes there is a little luck involved to encounter the orbs required, but you can easily maximise the efficacy of even a single orb that provides the desired effect by removing everything else that doesn't. You should always be aiming for a deck that holds only 3-4 orbs; generally one damage dealer, one healer (although not necessary if building for bulwark), and then 1-2 slime/bulwark/spinfection appliers, depending on what character you're aiming to unlock that run.
Just find something like Rubborb or Ball Lightning early and upgrade it, but only buy one and nothing else. Visit every shop you can to always remove the pebballs. If you find a healing orb like Doctorb then upgrade before you use it, otherwise you lose it. Nosforbatu is also great as it deals damage too. Goes without saying but you'll be aiming to achieve your unlock on a boss level; usually World 2 as you'll want all your orbs upgraded to max for this. If you find the relic that makes all pegs durable then you've basically done it.
